Dead Island’s character animation is terrifying

Dead Islandis a pretty scary game at times, but it turns out that the real horror isn’t the undead … it’s theliving! Using the accidentally released “dev kit” version of the game, a player went into third-person mode to view the character animations and, well … they’re monstrous! Bear in mind, of course, that these animations are visibleonlyusing the dev build, exploiting a feature that’s not in the real game. Ergo, Techland never intended you to see this and you won’teversee it yourself if you’re playing the game properly....

Destructoid review: Hammerin’ Hero

So Japan needs a hero? I guess. I dunno. I think America needs the hero right now. Hell, the PSP needs a old-school platforming hero just as bad. And I think we might just have one with Gen, the humble Japanese hammer-toting carpenter with an impossibly strong sense of justice. Gen and his gameHammerin’ Heroswing for the stars with this crazy side-scroller, a game style that we see very little of these days on Sony’s portable....

Did you watch Armored for free yesterday on PSN?

Was it any good? I wasn’t expecting much, but a free movie is a free movie, right? I missed it. I was busy Final Fantasying instead. Apparently theSony Pictures movie, which is still currently in theaters, was available on the service for about five hours. A mix up, I guess. The criticsdidn’t have much to say about it, so I don’t feel too bad about missing it. Also, Skeet Ulrich is the worst name ever created....

Does Halo 3 make it all better?

It is interesting to readThe New York Times’view on Xbox 360 console failure problem. The NYT articles touches on some of the reasons why so many systems fail, customers’ reactions to the failures, and Microsoft’s new repair policies. “It’s dissipating a tremendous amount of momentum they built up prior to July,” Mr....

DSi finally penetrated by pirates, ravaged without mercy

One of the biggest motives behind the development of the DSi was surely to curtail the huge amount of piracy that has affected previous incarnations of the system, thanks to the rise of the R4 Cart. The R4 doesn’t work with the DSi, while its enhanced features and firmware updates should have kept filthy pirates at bay. Apparently not. The rape isabout to commencewith the arrival of Supercard’s DSONEi, a brand new flashcart designed to turn the idea of firmware updates on its head....

Dtoid vs. Ekans? Make it in Sketchnation Shooter!

Sketchnation Shooteris a new game hitting the App Store on April 6. It’s basically a shoot ’em up maker where you can put whatever you like in the game and make it hurl bullets at stuff. E for All is dead, gamers forget to cry

IDG World Expo has announced that E for All is NM for “no more.” The reason for the show’s cancellation is probably a lopsided mix. First, the show was apparently terrible this year. Secondly, there’s this one show called E3, and itjust got biggerafter a poor response two years running. IDG gave a statement toVE3Dabout the cancellation: We want to thank all of our E for All partners for their support, and we encourage E for All exhibitors to participate in the E3 new event, which we believe will meet their needs as well as those of the industry at large....

E3 09: Activision announces games, may expand Call of Duty

Yesterday’sActivision conferencebrought out a lot of confirmed projects for the company. Unsurprisingly, we’re going to see anotherTony Hawkgame in 2010 and — brace yourselves — there will be a game based onShrek 4. Other titles announced include use of the licenses forSpider-Man,James BondandTransformers, though with no known films set for release in that year, it’s likely that they’ll be unrelated to any specific movie. More interesting is the suggestion that theCall of Dutyfranchise may be expanded to include “related genres....
