A new wireless technology has been unveiled by OnLive CEO Steve Perlman. This new tech is capable of sub-millisecond latency, which is going to be fantastic for gaming. And range? No problem. It seems that the range on this new tech can reach out into the Earth’s atmosphere!
Rearden Companies (OnLive’s parent company) says that this wireless technolgy should be capable of broadcasting across 250 miles, though it has only been tested for 30 miles. Ha! That’s more than good enough for gaming. The latency at 30 miles is only 2 ms, saysEdge. That’s quite impressive. Even more impressive is how this new technology has achieved ten times the previously accepted ceiling for error-free data transmission.
Super-long distances at very low latencies could change everything for wireless gaming, not to mention wireless devices in general. Cloud-based gaming while roaming the world could be a reality with this technology. I’m sure OnLive is quite excited about this.
