Nintendo software won big in December according to the latest NPD Group information, beating out Activision’s behemoth and various other titles released before or during the hot and steamy seasonal month.
Selling 2.82 million units,New Super Mario Bros. Wiiclaimed the number one spot in the Group’s Top 10 chart. Nintendo’sWii Fit Pluscame in a close second with a grand total of 2.41 estimated units.Wii Sports Resortsold 1.79 million units while Activision’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2rounded out the top five by selling 2.75 million units combined (Xbox 360 & PS3).
The rest? Know this: the venerable Wii Play bundle sold 1.01 million units, beating out Nintendo’sMario Kart, Ubisoft’sAssassin’s Creed II, Valve’sLeft 4 Dead 2, and Nintendo’sMario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story.
And, yes, the cash generated is down from last year. We blame this ononeof either of these two things: (a) the crummy economy and (b) the new low, low prices at Papa Johns.
