Never doubt Nintendo’s power to sell shiny plastic to the masses! Amazon.co.uk has received more pre-orders for the3DSthan any other games console, beating the Xbox 360, PS3 and even the Wii. This lends credence toNintendo’s own claimthat the UK is snapping ups 3DS units on a wide scale.
Amazon has revealed that the 3DS pre-orders are 20% greater than they were for PS3, 56% greater than the Wii, and friggin’ 255% more than the DSi. Amazon UK’s games director Chris Poad calls the consumer interest “unusual” and adds that such numbers are “normally reserved for the play-at-home hardware like the ground-breaking Nintendo Wii and last year’s Microsoft Kinect.”
While some predict that the rise of the iPad and other mobile gaming devices pose a serious threat to Nintendo’s handheld dominance, it would appear that the 3DS has nothing to worry about. That system is going to make mad bank, and from what I’ve seen, it’ll have deserved it.
Now excuse me while I giggle excitedly in anticipation of getting one.
