Earlier this week, quite serious allegationswere leveled at Microsoft, as the company stood accused of releasing software that would improve Kinect as a product. Naturally, Microsoft has moved to ensure that such libel is challenged — emphaticallydenyingthat Kinect is going to get better.
When questioned as to whether Kinect would indeed received a software update that would quadruple the peripheral’s accuracy, a Microsoft rep said, “We’re constantly working to expand and improve on experiences for Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE. However, this rumour is completely unsubstantiated.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with the fidelity of the technology and clearly consumers agree given we sold more than 2.5 million units around the world in the first 25 days Kinect was on the market.”
It is good PR to shoot down a rumor that says you’re going to make your product superior.
