There are a a lot of incredible 3DS games on the horizon (Super Mario,Luigi’s Mansion 2, andhopefullyMega Man Legends 3to name a few), but not many of them offer the same guarantee of quality asMetal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D(scheduled for release this November). It’s easily my favorite game in the series, for its humor, its drama, and perhaps most of all, its genuine focus on survival. Instead of utilizing the healing factor system that’s sneaked it’s way into so many games of late (includingMetal Gear Solid: Peace Walker),Snake Eaterrequires you to work at staying healthy. That means keeping your stomach full by hunting and eating a variety of wildlife, including snakes, crabs, and of course, tree frogs. You also have to manually patch up your injuries with some mini self-surgery. Otherwise, your wounds won’t go away, no matter how many rations you eat. Those little details go a long way to make the game’s world feel like a real place.

That’s why I’m a little worried to hear that elements ofMetal Gear Solid 4andMetal Gear Solid: Peace Walkerare making their way intoMetal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D.

According to a recent interview withNintendo Power, the game’s producer Yoshikazu Matsuhana said:”The player controls and some other well received elements from MGS4 and Peace Walker have been implemented into the game” and “The camera from Subsistence has been adopted, as well as elements of the free roaming camera system that was implemented in MGS4 and Peace Walker.“

Other than the multi-player and the camera, I can’t think of too many elements fromMGS4andPeace Walkerthat I’d want tacked on toMGS:SE3D. I do hope they keep theApe Escape-based bonus game in there though, with the apes swapped out forAnimal Crossingcharacters maybe?
