Earlier todaywe reportedthat Legendary Pictures were in negotiations to acquireGears of Wardeveloper Epic Games. According to Epic vice president, Mark Rein, the takeover isn’t going to happen. In a conversation withDevelop, Rein called the reports of negotiations “just another rumor.”
Unfortunately, the Epic exec wasn’t willing to comment on the substance of the rumor. Instead, he reiterated the same statement he gaveVarietyearlier today by saying that Epic were “very excited” about theGears of Warmovie and have the “highest regard” for Legendary Pictures.
I’m glad Mr. Rein has respect for Legendary Pictures (300,Batman Begins), but I’m still wondering why Rein wasn’t able to outright deny negotiations. Even though Legendary churns out some quality flicks, I still wouldn’t want them meddling in my videogames. It’s like pouring coffee over the top of your cereal in the morning.
