Since its release last month,Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3Dhas done incredibly well, which is encouraging to Nintendo and Eiji Aonuma, who are considering bringing another title in the franchise to the 3DS. Aonuma, who has had a hand in many of theZeldagames includingOOT,Majora’s MaskandThe Wind Waker, sat down with Nintendo Power (their August issue has the full interview) and primary focuses on the upcoming titleLegend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. He also discusseswhat could make aMajora’s Maskremake possible, among other things.
According to Aonuma,Ocarina of Time 3Dwas made possible, in large part, because fans said they wanted an updated version of the game. He then went on to say that if the same level of interest was shown forMajora’s Mask, “…it wouldn’t be an utter impossibility [to see a remake].” That is not to say you should start calling or emailing Nintendo right now, and Aonuma is not making any promises (a wise decision on his part), but this is encouraging news.
Sales forOcarina of Time 3Dhave been incredibly high, and Zelda fans the world over have proved that even older titles in the franchise are still well loved. While the best we’ve gotten so far is a single comment about a remake ofMajora’s Masknot being totally impossible, I can’t imagine a lack of interest for it (creepy grinning moon and all), and fans might not have to work as hard for a Zelda remake as they havefor other games, with possibly better results.
