Amidst Midway’s financial woes, the publisher recently announced it would be axing two of its games based on IPs. Apparently, one of them isn’tUnreal Tournament.Speaking to GameSpot, Epic’s Mark Rein clears things up, and then drops a hint on the series’ future.

“Our arrangement with Midway isn’t a license, but rather a straight publishing agreement, and Midway is still very much the public ofUnreal Tournament 3,” he said. “In fact, we’re working together on a major expansion that we expect will excite and grow our UT3 customer base.”

Unrealfans, sorry for the tease — Rein reveals no other information, declining to comment on whether or not it would be a standalone product or downloadable content. Also unknown is whether the content will ship for all of the platforms the game shipped on — PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360. Of the three, one — the Xbox 360 — got the shaft on user-generated content. I’m sure at least they’re clamoring for some newUnreal Tournament IIIgameplay.
