James Cameron may be up his own arse when he talks about how original and brilliant he thinksAvataris, but looking at the artwork seems to indicate that it’s notquiteas unique as we have been led to believe. All evidence points toAvatarhaving already been on the original Xbox. It was just calledAzurik.
The similarities are enough for Microsoft to make a plagiarism case. Both of the games seem to be about half-naked blue men with spears who wear the exact same loincloth. Even the names are similar, with James Cameron slightly altering his to something generic in the hopes that nobody will notice his foul thievery. Fortunately, Destructoid Mike was savvy enough to spot it, and quickly informed us.
Okay, so this post is actually incredibly stupid and the similarities are vague at best. But hell, it’s 6am and you’ve got nothing better to talk about. Our review ofAvataris coming soon — for some reason, Ubisoftdoesn’t want to send us review copiesanymore — so stay tuned for that.
Fun fact:Azurikwas the first Xbox game to feature anti-aliasing when it released 2001. The more you know!
