Everyone loves a good list, but the problem is that anyone can make up a list and call it right. That won’t do. No, what we need is some sort of official organization to make the list and thus validate it because they’re known to be official. Enter Guinness World Records andtheir list of the top 50 game series.
Guinness actually did this for the last edition of their gaming edition of the “Guinness Book of World Records,” but this year they switched it up by asking gamers to vote on the games instead of devs and industry pros. While this kind of completely invalidates the whole expert part of Guinness, the list, which can be found after the jump, actually came out in a far less depressing state than it could have.
Yes, the expected culprits are on there withMario,HaloandCall of Dutyall making high appearances. However, the likes ofChrono Trigger,LittleBigPlanetandBurnoutshowing up as well give it a well rounded feel even if there are some glaring admissions. Indie and smaller developers didn’t really show up at all thanks to this really just being a popularity contest. The order is whack as well.
