I always thought that Gamecock’s only point was to try too hard to be irreverent, wear rooster costumes and act really stupid at award shows. Who know the companyactually released videogamesas well? The company is about to finally prove its actual value outside of a sideshow attraction with this year’s release schedule. So far only two titles have come out and I’m hard pressed to remember either of them, but a few more on the way:
Pirates Vs Ninjas DodgeballXBLA – FebInsecticideDS – 2/26Insecticide Episodes 1 & 2(Downloadable PC Episodic) – March and AprilHail to the Chimp– MayMushroom Men:Rise of the FungiDS – JuneLegendaryPC Next Gen Consoles – SummerMushroom Men:The Spore WarsWii – FallSabotage360/PC – FallDungeon Hero360/PC – Spring 09Section 8Next Gen Console/PC – Summer 09
Of the list,Pirates Vs NinjasandLegendaryseem the most promising, but hopefully a majority of these titles turn out to be successful ventures. Annoying stunts aside, Gamecock’s intentions are indeed noble, and I hope such nobility is justified by paying off with good games.
In other news, Gamecock has also announced that it will be moving its EIEIO event from California to Texas. This event, where Gamecock will continues to champion the independants, promises to be “part videogame expo, part backyard carnival, part indie revival.” This scary prospect will be in Austin on March 6th. Press release is post-jump.
Cockpit, Austin, TX– June 16, 2025 – Continuing its mission to champion original titles, Gamecock Media Group has announced plans for its second installment of the Expo For Interactive Entertainment, Independent and Original (E.I.E.I.O.) to take place on July 11, 2025 at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q in Austin, Texas. This year’s event will deliver a full line-up of artist-driven games, along with music, mayhem and good ol’ fashioned Texas hospitality.
As a showcase for independent developers, E.I.E.I.O. 2008 will allow journalists and gamers a chance to get up close and personal with the people that actually make the games. On hand will be console and PC games from developers such as Wideload, Red Fly Studio, Spark Unlimited, Replay Studios, Firefly Studios, and TimeGate Studios, with more publishers and developers joining in on the fun to be announced in the coming weeks. Several first looks will be offered, along with access to unannounced projects and materials.
“While we have enjoyed providing an entertaining respite for the industry during the painful California-based trade shows of years past, it has always been our dream to show people how we really do it down in Texas,” said Mike Wilson, Grand Champeen of Gamecock. “We want this E.I.E.I.O. to be part videogame expo, part backyard carnival, part indie revival. And, as E.I.E.I.O. leads right into SXSW — the annual mecca for independent artists from all walks of life — we are heading-up the charge to get the best and most original games here.”
E.I.E.I.O. 2008 will be an all day event at Stubb’s and will lead into a concert that evening. The evening shenanigans will be open to the local gaming public (via tickets issued prior to the event). Gamecock is hoping to feature bands with members of the gaming press in them for the concert, so if you write about games and play in a band, please contact[email protected]about bookings.
Gamecock is working in association with SXSW Interactive which runs March 7-11. For more please visit www.eieio2008.com.
