After ten billion years of waiting,Final Fantasy XIIIreleases today in North America, with a last-minute announcement that will give PS3 fans something else to beam about in one of the console wars’ most bitter battleground. The PlayStation 3 version of the game is getting an exclusive.
XIIIPS3 will give players a “secret in-game item” for use withFinal Fantasy XIVwhen it releases later this year. They will also be in with a chance of getting into the beta. Square Enix “Point Cards” will be packaged into the initial run of PS3 copies, which can be used onSquare-Enix Membersto redeem a code.
Sony would like to remind you that the PS3 versionisthe one to get. “TheFinal Fantasyfranchise has long been synonymous with the PlayStation brand,” writes Sony demagogue Rob Dyer. “Who could forgetFinal Fantasy VIIon PSone andFinal Fantasy Xproved to be a landmark achievement when it launched on the PS2.”
I think Sony should just pretendFinal Fantasy XIIIis an exclusive. It would be funny.
