Gears of War 2was released this past Friday, andwe reviewed it last nightwith glowing criticism. Unfortunately, it seems that a sector ofGears 2‘s fanbase do not share our enthusiasm, andhave been complainingabout the game’s multiplayer changes.
First of all, a slow matchmaking process has caused agony for some eager gamers, with reports of people waiting up to ten minutes before getting into a game, and sometimes getting disconnected. I must admit that I had a disconnection maybe twice since I got the game, but the waiting times have not really crushed my spirit or dampened my fun.
Other complaints are about the shotgun, which has had its power reduced dramatically. People think it is far too weak, while the chainsaw is now overpowered thanks to some stagger resistance. These criticisms I find less valid. The shotgunruinedthe first game, and I imagine the only people bitching about that issue are the ones who helped ruin it with their mindless, random blasting. As for the chainsaw, I think its use is still a risk thanks to new duels and the fact that a quick-witted shotgun wielder can still get out of danger and explode his enemy’s face.
In addition, people also hate smoke grenades and mortars, believing them to be far too powerful. I have seen no such problems with these weapons.
Personally, I think the vast majority of these complaints are people whining because they died too many times to a particular weapon, or they can no longer turnGearsinto a brainless shotgun competition. Do you share their views, however, and can offer a counter?
