In another desperate attempt to boost PSP sales, Sony has signed a deal with EMI Music UK that will allow users in the United Kingdom to download music videos to their PSPs.

According toEurogamer, Bela Molnar, MD of HiFi Entertainment (the company offering EMI content via its online store), claims that the deal will revive interest in Sony’s handhe– er, music pla– umm, their black, shiny … thingy. Well, of course she does. If it doesn’t, it’s her paycheck taking it from behind. Here’s the usual quotes (first Molnar, then Eurogamer):

“The quick downturn of the UMD market has left many of the big believers of the format disappointed, including us,” said Molnar.

“We knew that the PSP market is huge, but it needed a different platform to provide content to users.”

EMI Music UK’s entire music video library will be made available to users of psp-playlist.com, downloaded directly to the a memory stick and priced between GBP 1.89 and GBP 2.19.

Huge market. Yep. Sure. Of course, it doesn’t stop there. Oh no.

“PSP owners are substantial in number and content hungry,” said Graeme Rogan, commercial manager of digital media for EMI Music UK.

“This deal will give consumers of the PSP format access to videos from EMI Music UK’s rich back catalogue, generating incremental sales for our artists,” he added.

Close Graeme, very close. Theyarehungry for content, but in the form of GAMES you god damned crazy @#!%ing retards! Seriously, what the hell? Why don’t people realize there is almost nothing that can generate PSP interest at this point? (except maybe GAMES) The DS has a gargantuan lead in the gaming industry, and both the iPod and Zune are ready to kick PSP in the balls if it tries to enter their territory. Right now, the PSP is just stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Kinda makes you wish you hadn’t shut down Lik-Sang; the only place that could actually sell PSPs, doesn’t it Sony? Ahhh, irony. Good one, God.
