I went out on a limb and putScott Pilgrim Vs. The WorldaboveThe Last Guardian,Zelda Wii,and evenMarvel Vs. Capcom 3on mymost anticipated games of E3 10 list. That was before I actually saw the game in action. For all I knew, the game would be a poorly animated cash-in. It took a lot of trust in the game’s creative team (headed by Paul Robertson) to tell the world how excited I am for the game. Looks like that excitement was justified.
This game looks pretty much perfect. The animation isn’t quite as smooth as Paul Robertson’sprevious work, but then again, what (other thanMetal Slug 3andStreet Fighter 3) is? The soundtrack is coming along quite nicely as well. Before now, I wasn’t all that impressed with Anamanaguchi, but this stuff sounds just right. Their work onBit.Trip RUNNERwas pretty good too.
At this point, my only concern is that the game isn’t going to sell that well. Sprite-based games historically have a tough time finding an audience on the PS3/360, and as of now, the game isn’t planned to have an online mode. Will the online-obsessed, HD-loving PS3/360 audience buy this game, or would it have been better off on the local co-op friendly, retro-hungry Wii/DS crowd?
In other related news, Game Trailers TV will interview Edgar Wright, the director of theScott Pilgrimfilm, tonight at 11pm. I still don’t think the movie could ever be as awesome as the game, but that’s probably because I like games better than movies (hence my job here at Destructoid).
