Eric Chahi might not be a household name to most gamers, but his seminal game,Another World(known asOut of This Worldin North America) is one that many folks have fond memories of.Project Dustmay not be a household name for most gamers, either, but if you saw the trailer for it at the end of Ubisoft’s press conference (or above), you’re probably interested in it.
Why bring these two things up together? Because Chahi is developingDust, a game that he calls a spiritual successor toPopulous, and that is a very awesome thing. In a Q&A, Chahi described the game as a simulator in which players will use the elements (ground, lava, water, fire, plants, trees) to help their people resist, expand and migrate so they can accomplish their quest to find a safe place to live. You’ll basically be manipulating the earth in order to help your tribe survive. It looks damn interesting.
The game will be landing on PC, PSN and XBLA next spring.
In case the concept art below and the trailer above don’t whet your appetite enough, here’s one more fact: Chahi says that the other inspiration forDustisRez, because music will play a large role in it. I just mentionedAnother World,PopulousandRezwhen referring to one game. It’s already a must-buy for me.
