Even thoughGod of War III’srelease date is looming large on the horizon, I still think there’s a reason to get excited aboutDante’s Inferno(the other third-person brawler): the monsters in the game are wicked huge, super stylized and mountable.

During the short behind closed doors presentation I was able to catch yesterday, I watched action hero Dante monsterjack (re: hijack) an enemy’s ride and proceed to rip a boss monster’s head off his muscled neck with the newly acquired, however evil, mount. (We’re talking claws in the neck, crazy pulling action here.)

We, uh, haven’t exactly seen anything like that inGod of War IIIyet.

Excluding monster jacking,Dante’s Infernohas the gameplay appearance of any third-person action title — tons of combos, tons of enemies, dumb A.I., and dated puzzle elements.

The monsters have some serious style — the enemy art is absolutely sick. I observed a guardian from the level Gluttony — a terribly fat woman with ooze for skin and puke for an attack — that completely changed my mind on the game’s direction (brown, ftw). From her folds to her t-ts, she’s terrifying in all the right ways.

Dante’s Infernois definitely a game I want to see more of, especially after readingour big preview. If you’re hot for action titles, definitely keep it on your radar. I’m almost positive we’ll see more original elements soon.
