According to an article onVariety.com, long-time Hollywood director Dwight Little will be yelling “action,” “cut,” and “Kuma needs more make-up” on the set of the upcoming live-actionTekkenfilm.
Little is no stranger to the action genre, having directed Steven Seagal in the classic film,Marked for Death. Other works of note includeAnacondas 2, an episode of the short-livedNightmare on Elm Streettelevision spin-offFreddy’s Nightmares, andFree Willy 2: The Adventure Home. It’s this varied experience that should give Little the edge in bringing Namco’s fighter to life on the big screen.
“The film plays out as a science fiction story set in the near future,” Little told Daily Variety, “about a rebel who rises up against the Tekken Corp. to seize freedom for his people. It’s a gladiator story, but the videogame has a complicated enough storyline to provide the template for a martial arts spectacular.”
Now I’m not going to pretend like I could map out the overall arc of theTekkenstoryline if my life depended on it. But does anyone know what the hell Little is talking about? Shooting on the Crystal Sky Pictures (Ghost Rider) begins February 4; maybe someone will figure it out by then.
