Similar to people who dim the lights in order to achieve the ideal viewing environment for a scary movie, so too do many of us opt for harder — and, in turn, more frightening — difficulties when playing horror games.
Upon completingDead Space 2once, Hard Core mode will unlock. In it, you are limited to three saves.
“What we found was that it wasn’t really fun to continue to make the game harder by giving the enemies more hit points or giving you less bullets,” explains creative director Wright Bagwell to MTV Multiplayer. “One of the things that’s really comforting in a game is the ability to save. We thought, if that’s the one thing that makes players feel all warm and fuzzy and safe, then let’s take it away from them.”
