We reported earlier on Sony’s facial recognition technology for the PS3, but now we have a video demonstration, and it’s hilarious.
The PlayStation Eye camera will track faces and even expressions and follow them in real time. This allows the PS3 to superimpose models of…well, whatever you wish on top of yours. Want an anime face? Great. Who doesn’t? How about a crazed cow head. When you open your mouth, the cow’s opens. Blink and it blinks.
All the bugs aren’t worked out yet, as you can see. Notice the eye twitching. It looks like the anime faces are having seizures. When you see how the back end works, it’s impressive technology. I just don’t know that we need cow face overlays in our games.
