Champions Onlineis an interesting beast. Made by Cryptic Studios, the original team behindCity of Heroes, they have a high pedigree of making superhero based MMOs. I mean, if you check out my preview, as well as my interview with Jack Emmert, the Chief Creative Officer of Cryptic, you’ll know they aim high to makeChampions Onlineinto the definitive superhero experience, allowing players to make and be whatever type of superhuman they want.
Of course, considering Destructoid is a gaming blog, we as hardcore gamers are looking for the next big thing. And by next big thing, I mean that we want to know what’s comingafterthe game that is still seven weeks from release. I guess you may say many gamers are, shall we say, prematurein their desire for the latest. This is why during my interview with Emmert last week, I asked him about what he sees as the future ofChampions Online:
I definitely think that withChampions…continuing to increase the universe, expanding it outwards, to be able to incorporate different genres likeGalactic Heroes,The Golden Age,being able to fight in World War II, I’d love to be able to do a companion game calledDark Championswhich is more about anti-heroes. Those are just the top of my head of things we’d really like to do. You know,City of Heroeshad a lot of plans, and we ended up doing it entirely differently.
Pretty interesting, huh? Adding fuel to the fire, G4, who seems to think like me,askedEmmert much the same question. His response then? They want to make a game calledNemesis Online. According to the G4 interview, Cryptic is aiming to make this sequel, whenever it happens, into more than an evil-reskinning orChampions Online, but rather a game designed around being dastardly and villainous. All I hope for is a high level of moustaches. Moustaches are always villainous, you know?
