AMD — the company responsible for the Xbox 360’s graphics chip — has boasted about the graphical capabilities of a console that technically isn’t supposed to exist, claiming that Microsoft’s next console will rivalJames Cameron Presents James Cameron’s Avatar by Award Winning Director James Cameronon the graphical front.
Neal Robison made the claim in the latestOfficial Xbox Magazine, though he wouldn’t confirm that he was actually working on the console. He added that A.I. and physics capabilities would be so high that every individual pedestrian on the streets ofGrand Theft Autocould have its own behavioral patterns, leading to truly distinct and individual NPCs.
I never believe any claim I hear about A.I. in games, because they’re nearly always lies. The graphics capabilities also seem ludicrous. As always, though, my first thought is — how the Hell will developers be able to afford a console of such mythical might, when budgets forthisgeneration are almost out of control?
