It seems that everyone is capitalizing on the casual gaming market these days. WithWii Sportsbeing such a worldwide phenomenon, 2K Sports figured they’d get in on the action. To that end, they’re working onMajor League Baseball 2K8 Fantasy All-Starsexclusivelyfor the DS. Yep, you heard right: a sports game is being developed specifically for Nintendo’s best-selling handheld. Their ever-popular sim baseball game,MLB 2K8, is coming out for the PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, and PSP this year, but now DS owners will finally get some love.
From what I gathered by reading through the press release,MLB 2K8 FASlooks to be more of an arcade title along the lines of Midway’s oldMLB SlugFestseries. In addition to the “fantasy” atmosphere, the game will also make extensive use of the touch-screen functionality of the DS. The press release mentions “specific gestures and intuitive usage of the stylus” and says that “all aspects of the game will be controlled on the Nintendo DS touch screen, including batting, pitching, fielding and baserunning.” In other words, it hits on all the requisite casual gaming buzzwords.
It all certainly sounds intriguing — the press release also touts three different gameplay modes, including All-Star Training, which will feature “a variety of fun and challenging mini-games.” And really, isn’t that what casual gaming is ostensibly all about? You’ll be able to get your mini-game on withMLB 2K8 Fantasy All-Starsthis April, and you can hit upwww.2ksports.comor the press release (after the jump) for more information.
