The face tracking and animation tech behind thenewly announced Avatar Kinect servicesounds ideal for games. Imagine an RPG where you could see your party’s faces in a status window. Or a horror game that eases up on the tense situations if it sees that you’re becoming scared. The implementation of this technology in games is still a ways off, but Microsoft Senior Director of PR for Entertainment Services, Jose Pinero, says that they were already thinking along those lines....

That’s right — parents have been willingly signing their children up for a course of jolts in order to stop them playing online videogames and surfing the ‘net. Fortunately, the news today is that Chinese officials have officialyordered it to stop… but why was it happening in the first place? “More than 3,000 young people were tricked or forced into the four-month long course,” reports China Daily....

In a quick-and-dirty Q&A session with Develop, Q-Games’ Dylan Cuthbert voiced his concern with the often quite vocal Internet whining that takes place when the topic of download-only games pops up. Darkest of Daysis a game I hadn’t even heard about until recently, and I get the feeling I’m not alone. Sure, it’s a first-person shooter, but the premise itself is pretty neat, and Phantom EFX seems to be taking a different approach to the genre. Someone (or something) is altering the past by placing highly important historical figures in situations which they cannot possibly survive in. It’s — you guessed it — up to you to stop whatever sinister forces are at work before someone inadvertently kills a bug which causes the present to be a horrible, lifeless wasteland....

Aion, a new MMO being developed by NCsoft, is a title that’s recently caught my eye. Having given up onWorld of Warcraftover a year ago, I’ve been looking for a new MMO to occupy my time.
