PS3 World Series ad draws ire, crucifixes

Last night Sony decided to air the above ad during the World Series. While their stab at pretension might have 15-year-old philosophers abandoning theirDonnie DarkoDVDs andMars Voltaalbums in a mad rush to explain to the girl down the street how “deep” and “meta” these ads are, the rest of the world is busy readying our pitchforks and vials of holy water to stem the tide of Demon Babies Sony is bound to launch upon the world with their PS3 system....

Puzzle Quest 2 now has a release date

I like being able to schedule my time. It’s very important to me. So, I always find it helpful when I can get a little advance notice on the fact that I’m going to be staring, glassy-eyed and drooling for a month or so. D3 Publisher let us know that I can pencil that in on June 22nd, whenPuzzle Quest 2for DS hits store shelves. I was so completely lost in the first game and I’m fairly certain that’s going to happen again....

Read the first few pages of the Elder Scrolls novel

Publisher Random House has teased book fanswith an excerptfrom the upcomingElder Scrollsnovel,The Infernal City. If you’re undecided on the book, written by Greg Keyes, then perhaps the opening scene will entice you or put you off. Either way, it’s there for the reading, so go right ahead. As a budding fantasy nut and a fan ofOblivion, I think I’ll definitely be picking it up. In fact, I’m really tempted to start playingOblivionagain to jog my memory of the game world, even if Idohave a tendency to ruin every character build I try and make....

Retro City Rampage will sabotage your thunder hats

There was a time when there was an endless list of WiiWare games that I was looking forward to. Now, that list is shrinking, as many of the games that I wanted have come and gone. All that’s left isSuper Meat Boy,Bit.Trip 5and6,And Yet it Moves,La-Mulana, andRetro City Rampage. That list may be smaller, but it’s still packed with power. Out of all of those games,Retro City Rampageis one of the most exciting, though it’s also one of the least well known....

RUMORTOID: Achievements for Xbox 360 version of GTA IV leaked?

It was only yesterday that everyone was talking aboutSony’sdownplaying of the Xbox 360’s episodic content forGTA IV, and the common theme that kept cropping up in the story’s comments was achievement points. Apparently they make a difference. As you know, the Xbox 360’s got them, and when combined with the extra content that Microsoft supposedly spared no expense on, we now know that (at least to those who stopped by to comment on our blog) the Xbox 360 is the hometown favorite....

SDCC: Five more Game #3 trailers, just for you

The great thing about conventions is that news moves at lightning pace: this morning, Jimbrought you guys a new gameplay videofromThe Behemoth‘s “Game #3.” Well, a few more have hit the internet since then (thanks,GameSpot), and I’m happy to share them with you. SDCC: More cosplay and floor photos, dog

Here’s more cosplay shots from the floor of the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con. As always, it’s nearly impossible to get around on the first weekend day of the event. You have to waddle to progress through crowds, and getting elbowed in the side is a regular thing. Still, there’s cosplay to be found. My favorite cosplayer so far is the above dog, named Chopper. He was on his own motorcycle, and it looked like he was driving it as it was being controlled remotely....

Sequels “R” Us: EA says Mercenaries 3 is in the works

Not to outweighthe announcementthat sequels are coming forDead Space,Army of Two, andBattlefield: Bad Company, we are now being told that Pandemic is going to be making a third entry in theMercenariesseries. “There will be aMercenaries 3and, if I have anything to do with it, there will be aMercenaries 10,” said EA CEO John Riccitiello during a post-earnings conference call yesterday afternoon. As someone who was a rather large fan ofMercs 2: World in Flames, I’m cautiously optimistic that the good people at Pandemic will be able to take what they learned and apply it towards making the next game just as fun, minus all of those wacky glitches....
