Creator talks ten years of Asheron’s Call, future of MMOs

Ten years ago, when designer Toby Ragaini createdAsheron’s Callwith a team of inexperienced developers, no one could have expected the game would be as successful as it would become. Except, of course, a young and confident Ragaini. “Well, we were all college age,” he explains, “and naturally had great expectations. But if we had known the odds against us, I don’t think we would have been so optimistic. None of us had any development experience, so it was certainly a case of ‘ignorance is bliss....

Destructoid review: Interpol: The Trail of Dr. Chaos

I wish there was a strong way to associate Robocop and TikGames’ recent Xbox Live Arcade release,Interpol: The Trail of Dr. Chaos. The simple route would consist of me telling you thatInterpolhas detectives. Then I would draw a rough comparison between the gumshoe gameplay and how Robocop doesn’t need “clues” to catch the bad guy. Somehow, he always knew which cocaine factory door to kick in. I can’t fully draw this comparison....

Destructoid’s games of the week for 07/15/07: E3 edition!

With yet another E3 now behind us, I think it’s prudent to take a moment to reflect on the life of Johannes Kepler. Why? I have no idea. According to Wikipedia: Johannes Kepler(June 07, 2025 – July 16, 2025) was a German Lutheran mathematician, astronomer and astrologer, and a key figure in the 17th century astronomical revolution. He is best known for his eponymous laws of planetary motion, codified by later astronomers based on his worksAstronomia nova,Harmonices Mundi, andEpitome of Copernican Astronomy....

Dynasty Warriors 7 trailer has bodysurfing and SHOUTING

A new Japanese trailer has arrived forDynasty Warriors 7(hitting NA on March 25), and it has plenty of shouting in it. That’s really all you could ask for in your Japanese trailers, right? The footage shows Sima Zhao surfing on the back of a downed enemy, a whole mass of Jin characters doing some talking, and the weapon-switching system that will feature heavily in the combat. My one fear with this game is that it will end up likeDynasty Warriors: Strikeforce, which was excellent except for the fact that everybody being able to share weapons took the uniqueness out of the characters....

E3 10: Animal Crossing really pops on the 3DS

The reveal images for Nintendo’s 3DS games continues with none other thanAnimal Crossing. Yep, that’s what the company is calling it for now — just “Animal Crossing.” No “3DS” in the name, but I’d be surprised if that doesn’t eventually become the case. The game clearly makes good use of the handheld’s processing power and graphical capabilities, as you can see in the attached screenshots. What else do we know? Very little at this time, sadly....
