Quarterbacks, Madden NFL 10 has them

Electronic Arts dropped a bunch ofMadden NFL 10screens this morning, all of which you can view in our beautiful gallery. The point of these (there’s always a point) is to illustrate Tiburon’s attention to detail with pre-snap quarterback stances and the new Pro-Tak gang tackling physics thing. You can’t really appreciate Pro-Takunless you see it in motion. It’s essentially a dynamic system that accounts for every body in an NFL cluster — the kind where a poor running back is surrounded by up to eight big offensive and defensive bodies on a busted play....

Quest for Glory programmer talks Adventure Quest

Last month I talked to Chris Chapell, co-producer ofAdventure Quest, about his 1980’s PC adventure game themed live-action play. Since we spoke, tickets for the June 6 debut of the play sold out, leading me to believe people are buying what Chapell and Adventure Quest are selling on paper. I recently got in touch with Corey Cole, a programmer for the lauded adventure gaming franchiseQuest for Glory, and asked for his thoughts on Adventure Quest — a play partially based on what he and his wife Lori Ann Cole created in the 1980s....

Real Time Worlds gives us the latest on APB

Currently, the team is tweaking the core gameplay based on feedback from group play tests. One fan suggested that there be explosive and non-lethal inventory items inAPB, and RTW thought that was a good enough idea to roll with. Groovy. The suggestion of bullet-time was rejected due to the game’s nature, however mini-games and leisure activities are still under consideration. There’s a chance we may see those elements as downloadable content down the road....

Resident Evil 5: Still scary for a nine-year-old

When I was nine-years-old, I went over to a friend’s house for his birthday. His older sister hadResident Evil: Director’s Cut, and all the pre-teens in the house went upstairs to see it. My twin sister and I watched up until Jill finds the zombie munching on some dude’s neck, a scene that scared us so badly that we were deathly terrified of zombies for six years. Imagine two dweeby twelve-year-olds sprinting up the stairs, begging the other to turn out all the lights in the house so that the lucky twin could make a break past the zombies that were surely waiting to get us....

RetroforceGO! recording episode 33 early today: The bygone greatness of Konami

Your friends atRetroforceGO!are recording early today, (today being Sunday, not Saturday night) and I’m not sure why. Let’s pretend it’s because of something totally manly and awesome. We’re recording early because Dyson lost a limb while wrestling a gorilla, and we have to go out later to track down said primate and kick his ass. Yeah, that’s it. It’s totally not because one of us has to go to a meeting for their day job tonight....

Rock it like it’s 1986: Araknoid DS comes with new paddle controller

Forget your wacky ‘wiggle wands’ and stupid ‘several-axis’ setups – who needs that crap when you’re able to have an old-fashioned gaming paddle? Right? Who needs all of those other directions when you can just spin the paddle left and right. Why, back in my day I… Taito brings back the block-busting action of the classicArkanoid. For the younger gamers out there, this game was not much more than an on-screen version of racketball, played by moving a bar left and right to deflect a bouncing ball....

Rumortoid: Bungie developing an iPhone game

Ever since the firmware update allowed me to make lightsaber sounds by swinging around my iPhone, I have been pondering the vast possibilities of games and applications on the device. One thing that I haven’t considered is a game being developed by Bungie. This latest Bungie rumor isn’t as juicy aspulled footage, but it still sounds cool. According toPocketGamer, the developer recently gave all of its employees free iPhones. Of course, the natural conclusion to such a gift isn’t that the company was just rewarding its talented developers....

Rumortoid: Dreamcast 2 on the way?

SEGA has officially filed for trademark of the name Dreamcast once again, sending salivary glands and reproductive organs into a frenzy across the internet. Although the original filing for the Dreamcast isstill active, this latest one, (dated August 13 of this year), makes mention of “home video game machines; floor pads or mats” and “flash memory cards.” It’s no secret around these parts that I love my Dreamcast like a dog with a bone, and there’s never been any floor mat accessory or actual flash memory card in its library of accessories....

Rumortoid: Sony unveiling motion-sensing controller soon

Another day, another rumorthat Nintendo’s rivals will be copying the motion-controller of the Wii. Despite the fact that simply copying Nintendo’s controller won’t guarantee the same success as Nintendo’s heavily marketed system and cornered demographic, it seems almost inevitable that Sony and Microsoft will still try. The latest rumor suggests that Sony could make its move at E3. According to reports, the controller uses “small LEDs” and a “small webcam” to track player movement, which makes it sound somewhat like the PlayStation’s EyeToy....

Say goodbye to Merchants of Brooklyn and hello to Drug Wars

Merchants of Brooklyn, that one PC shooter that wasinadvertently releasedas an unfinished game, has gone through a name change, and is now known asDrug Wars. The old switcheroo wasnoticed by Shacknews, who comments that the new title comes from a free add-on released forMoBback in June. Even though the correct, finalized version ofMerchants of Brooklynwas released on Steam, the damage can still be seen in the game’s review scores. If I were to speculate as to why Paleo Entertainment went through with the rebranding, that’d be my best guess....
