Guitar Hero: Metallica trailers display the importance of pyrotechnics

Yesterday, Activision released two hot trailers forGuitar Hero: Metallica. If the name didn’t tip you off, it’sGuitar Hero… with Metallica. Expect plenty of pyro.I didn’t post these in a timely manner because I was too busy sleeping off drunkenness. Activision doesn’t control me, man. If I want to stay up all Monday night doing shots off of Pamela Anderson’s torso, I will, damn it. I’mMETAL, man. METAL.Speaking of metal, the above video features King Diamond....

Halloween comes early: Costume Quest dated, priced

Double Fine — more than any other big-name studio — seems perfectly fitted to pump out some original, quality downloadable titles. The company gets to continue making the types of games it seems to enjoy making, minus the risks associated with putting out a retail product. Costume Questis one such game, and as of today, we know when it’s coming out and for how much. August 04, 2025 for a standard fee of $15 is when the magic happens on PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade....

Halo 4 could have been another sequel starring the Chief

If you’ve played to the end ofHalo 3on Legendary then you know that they left it a bit open as to whether or not we’d be seeing Master Chief again. OK, the blatantly left it open so that even if Bungie left Microsoft could still make money of one of their only iconic characters. Little did we know that Bungie themselves were seriously considering making the nextHalogame a direct sequel....

Hands-on: LittleBigPlanet beta

It has been a considerably long time since I woke up in the morning with bright-eyed anticipation for a game. In my youth, this would most often happen with the latest RPG. I would spring out of bed at 6 A.M. to playEarthBoundorBreath of Fire. The anticipation of a great time and the curiosity as to what could possibly happen next brought me to life each day. I’m having that exact experience again withLittleBigPlanet....

Huh, so that’s what LEGO Universe looks like!

LEGO Universe, even if it fails live up to my insane expectations of what a LEGO MMO could be like under the perfect conditions, is destined to be a hit. This isn’t a MEGA Bloks game, so there’s name recognition, and the potential target audience isabsolutely massive. The boys atRock, Paper, Shotgunstumbled across the first images for the game, which can beseen here. As they point out, the shots themselves look to be more conceptual than indicative of what the end product will be, but it’s nice to have an idea of what to expect fromLEGO Universe....

Jim Sterling gets Monstar’d … wait, what?

When in doubt, appeal to a writer’s narcissism. That’s what Cohort Studios did, and look, they’ve got themselves a free article about their game. So this isMonstar, a PlayStation Minis title that’ll be coming whenever thePlayStation Network returns. The studio got bored while waiting for the PSN’s big comeback, so it’s decided to portray some gaming writers as the titular Monstars of the game. The game has anofficial siteand aFacebook page, which you can check out....

Kinect Magic Mirror shows that what is inside counts

Here is video of researcher Tobias Blum demonstrating an Augmented Reality overlay which, using Kinect, shows a simulated “X-ray” image of a skeletal system underneath. Now, it isn’t Tobias’ skeleton but based on a dataset called Visible Korean Human. The researcher suggests that such a tool might be used to teach anatomy. I don’t want to sound like a broken record about this Kinect stuff, so I’ll just comment on how this is more than a little bit creepy to me....

Legendary Pictures picks up Mass Effect theatrical rights

Legendary Pictures, the production company behind blockbuster films like300andClash of the Titans, has picked up the film rights for theMass Effectfranchise. This would lead one to suspect the long-suspected: Someday, somewhere, there may be aMass Effectfilm. If they can doAsteroids, this ought to be a snap. Honestly, I don’t care that they’re going to make aMass Effectmovie. Though I recognize and respect the depth and attention to detail in the universe, I’m not so invested in it that the idea of a simplified tale being told on the silver screen is an affront....

Live Show: Backlog begins MadWorld

Last night on Backlog, I unexpectedly finishedMajin and the Forsaken Kingdomright as I was lamenting how much I wanted it to come to a close. But I was also ill-prepared and there simply wasn’t enough time to get the list put together for voting to start a new series today. So, I went ahead and picked a game:MadWorld. It hasn’t featured in the voting yet but I’m pretty sure it would have performed very well....

MadWorld: The most awesomely violent Wii experience yet

The Internet is abuzz with talk about upcoming Wii gameMadWorld, the ultra violent action title from Platinum Games (the new company composed of key members fromOkami-creator Clover Studio). And if the above trailer is any indication, the game looks to be violent …reallyviolent.Honestly, I am still in shock that this is a Wii game. Not that I’m complaining (I <3 my Wii). It’s just that, if someone told me months ago that the Wii would be home to the story of a contestant on a ridiculously violent television show who must kill people and bathe the surrounding world with gushing red blood to impress and entertain the audience watching all of the carnage at home, I would have laughed in his/her face....

Microsoft isn’t taking any chances with Halo’s marketing plan

It goes without saying thatHalo 3is going to sell its fair share of copies when it’s finally released this September. If you consider the 820,000 people that took part in the beta between May-June and the million-plus pre-orderstalliedback in August, a lot of people seem to haveHaloon their mind. After two successful games, you could say that Bungie’s golden app pretty much sells itself these days. Nonetheless, Microsoft isn’t one to take chances with its cash cow, and what better way to nurture that cow than to throw plenty of cash at it....
