Big changes came to SEGA this morning as the company moved forward with a restructuring plan. As of now SEGA’s San Francisco HQ has become the operating headquarters of SEGA’s digital division, a deliverer of everything digital for SEGA West. The European arm of SEGA, SEGA Europe, will now only focus on traditional, retail-based games. Before, both companies worked on digital and traditional games. As a result, employees became redundancies. The San Francisco branch saw 36 of its employees cut while SEGA Europe saw 37....

Space Squid’s Mushroom Men fiction contest winners announced

Here at Destructoid, we don’t deal in this thing people call “the real world.” Politics? Current affairs? Forget ’em. Hell, we even had to hire our own sports correspondent because those games are too close to reality for our brains to deal with. Which is why when Space Squid and Gamecock announced they were running aMushroom Menshort story contest, we perked up. Fictional stories about mischievous and heroic boletes? Sounds like our kind of party....

The Electronic Arts-themed savings on Steam continue with a new round of deals, good for today only. For the time being, it’sall aboutNeed for Speed. There’s only one game that’ll get me to cry out “Shut up and take my money!”, and it’s the one developed by Criterion Games. Nothing against the other two — thoseareridiculous prices — but I don’t have enough time for that much racing in my life....

Terminator: Salvation trailer has action, also robots

I didn’t think it was possible to kill a Terminator machine. Then again, I’ve never had the opportunity to play as a rebel against the Cyberdyne Systenms machine insurgency. Warner Bros. released an action montage trailer today forTerminator: Salvationthat shows all sorts of robot destruction by the hands of a mere man. (You can view it after the break.) It’s a good show, too. You’ll notice a prolific cover mechanic, not wholly unlike the one employed by Epic withGears of War....

TGS: Hands-on with rhythm heroics in Astro Ranger

Tucked away in a ignored corner of TGS wasAstro Ranger, a rhythm action arcade game from Korea. I was immediately drawn to it. The art direction and general premise here is very reminiscent ofViewtiful Joe, which is a sure fire way to garner my affection. Starting up, you can chose between four different characters, a Japanese schoolgirl, a punk, a huge shirtless man, and a sexy American looking woman. From there, you pick a song, and then start taking on monsters of various sizes, ranging from little flying octopus to giant Kaiju....
