When Nintendo of America’s President and COO, Reggie Fils-Aime, says that the company’s latest handheld, the Nintendo 3DS, is in a “category of one,” he’s not kidding. When it ships on March 27, Nintendo’s handheld will be the only gaming device on the market that provides glasses-free 3D. Along with upgraded hardware and software that builds on the strengths of its previous blockbuster handhelds, Nintendo is confident that it has a “game changer” on its hands....

Over the weekend, a video for something calledThe Crucibleappearedthat was rumoredto be a Silicon Knights/Sega collaboration. Yesterday,Sega deniedthose rumors. Today, we have even more rumors concerning the brief slice of footage that has generated more discussion than it possibly deserves. Kotakuclaims thatThe Crucibleis the work of Big Huge Games and formerObliviondesigner Ken Rolston. If true, this would be a THQ-published project for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2009. According to the rumor, the footage unearthed represents an “absolutely archaic” build that has been improved upon by “orders of magnitude” since it was made....

Nintendo appears to be undermining Sony’s recent 3D console efforts with thefreshly announced 3DS, a portable system that provides 3D gaming, allegedly, without the need for goofy glasses. It’s an interesting idea, but Sony is not convinced, claiming that the PS3 will provide top notch gaming in three dimensions, and that Nintendo’s “nine year-old” fans won’t get anything out of its 3DS. “There’s a tremendous amount of opportunity on PlayStation 3 with 3D,” says Sony hype merchant John Koller....

Unless you’re a manga fanatic, you may not have heard of Japanese magazineV Jump, but if you’re a Square Enix fan you’re sure to remember them after today. It seems that a mention popped up in their pages of a new game project with the king of RPGs. The excerpt follows: “Square Enix[andV Jump] begin ‘Project V’, which will create a next-generation blockbuster! Perhaps your ideas will become reality?!”. Considering that Square has its fingers in many pies, there is no proof that this means there is a game on the way, considering that they also publish some anime series (such as the recentKuroshitsuji)....

We finally have a release date for Square Enix’s remake PSP SRPG,Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together: May 15, 2025. Great news. If you haven’t heard, what’s cool about this update is that the original team is developing it. The original director, designers and composers are back to polish this already fantastic strategy role-playing game into something shiny and new for PSP owners. I’m sad that the Taiko no Tatsujin games were not a success in America, but I know why — the American version,Taiko Drum Master, simply lacked the musical oomph that the original Japanese games pull off so well (and I’m not just saying that because I’m a big Japanese music fan!). There’s definitely something unappealing about beating a replica of a taiko drum to a Britney Spears song. Meanwhile in Japan, sales of the series are as strong as ever, and the Wii version of Taiko no Tatsujin gets its sequel next month....

After Target learned that people could see thecensored killsinManhunt 2, they have decided to take the game off of their shelves: “While ‘Manhunt 2‘ was given a ‘Mature’ rating by the ESRB, we received additional information that players can potentially view previously filtered content by altering the game code. As a result, we have decided not to carry the game.” The article onABC doesn’t really clarifyif Target is just taking the PSP version away or all versions but in any case, this is a dumb move on Target’s part....

It looks like any hopes Xbox 360 owners may have regarding seeingNinja Gaiden Sigmaported over from the PlayStation 3 have but all been dashed. Talking with Japan’sFamitsu Xbox 360,Tomonobu Itagakihad this to say about the whole deal: “We’re getting requests to port Sigma to the Xbox 360, but we currently have no such plans.
