A few days ago, Sony revealed that a special Christmas treat was coming toDemon’s Souls(mypersonalGame of the Year), andwe speculatedthat the game’s world of Boletaria would be drenched in a Pure White tendency for a limited amount of time. Turns out Destructoid was right — for the Holiday period,Demon’s Soulswill be going easy on its victims, as the worldturns to Pure White. For those not in the know, Pure White tendency is what happens in levels where players have managed to perform specific feats and shifted the realm toward a lighter path, free of the Old One’s malicious grip....

Developer of WiiWare game Project Bang suggests March launch for Wii service

This here is two news pieces in one, thanks to the slippery tongue of Netherlands-based developer, Engine Software. Yesterday, the company announced their first project for Nintendo’s upcoming Wii downloadable game service, WiiWare. Tentatively titledProject Bang!, this (surprise!) “casual” game is said to use the Wii remote’s unique functionality, and will contain a two-player battle mode. Facepalms at the ready, kids! The writer of such movies asSlitherandDawn of the Dead, James Gunn,is looking for actorsto star in an original show made especially for the Xbox Live Marketplace. Pegged as the “wacky adventures of a group of friends,” I somehow can’t believe this is going to end well. A demo getting releasedbeforea teaser? “Surely you are mistaken,” you must think. Well, we aren’t. Sort of. It appears thatNo Mutants Allowed, the premiereFalloutfansite on the Internet, was not content to simplyshowuswhat project Van Buren (akaFallout 3,back when Black Isles was still working on it) looked like. They’ve provided adownload linkfor the tech demo shown in the aforementioned video, and it is, indeed, fully playable. Granted, it’s a demo to a game that was abandoned years ago and will never actually come to fruition, but it’s a demo nonetheless....

Dragon’s Dogma cracks out the Golem

And no, not that one fromLord of the Ringsthat everybody does impressions of because they think they’re so hilarious. No, squealing “Precious” is NOT good comedy, and you’re a dick if you think you’re being amusing in any way, shape or form. Wait, what? Oh right,Dragon’s Dogma. The latest screens show off yet another classic monster of myth that you’ll need to take down — the Golem. Being made of rock, it’s pretty hard to take down, and it’s packing a lazer beam because … well, why not?...

DS finally outsells Game Boy, best-selling handheld ever

Up until now, Nintendo’s GameBoy was the best selling handheld game system ever, with some 118 million units sold. When you look back at your collection of portables, it makes sense. I still have the ol’ Green Screen, Game Boy Pocket, a broken Game Boy Color, and a GBA SP. I had the Micro for some time and I lost that sweet GBP that had the Timex Indiglo backlight. Hey, that’s how they got that record!...

Dsi firmware v1.4 brings Facebook to Japanese handhelds

Japanese DSi systems havejust been blessedwith the latest firmware. The update isn’t stuffed to the gills with features, but it does bring one noteworthy feature — Facebook connectivity. The only other improvement with v1.4 is faster image display with the DSi camera. Since you’re not an infant, however, the camera improvements probably don’t interest you. If you love Facebook and somehow don’t have a portable electronic that can access it yet, be calm....

Dtoid (the show) week 8: Bad ass Hollywood all stars

I can’t even begin to recap all the stuff that happened this week on The Destructoid Show. Despite the fact that we’re in a pre-VGA’s news lull, we still found plenty to talk about. Off the top of my head, I know that Tofu Boy, theUnchartedmovie, theInceptiongame, theGran Turismo 5review,Back to the Future,Videodrome,Binary Domain, andMario Sports Mixwere all in there somewhere, but the details are sketchy. I mostly remember Tara Long being particularly hilarious this week....

EA Sports Hockey League: you’ve got your MMO in my NHL 09, it sounds brilliant!

Everyone loves to rag on EA for a purported lack of innovation, or a perceived tendency to forgo change in lieu of taking chances. But it’s becoming increasingly more difficult to keep up the EA hate train; lately, they’ve been publishing lots of wonderfully fun, exciting, and daring new titles likeRock Band,Mirror’s Edge,Spore, andHenry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure. Last year,NHL 08garnered “Sports Game of the Year” honors from seven publications, but that doesn’t mean that EA Canada is resting on its lofty laurels....
