In ourpenultimateBioWare story, we told you what the studio thought about the mainstream reactions to sex in videogames. Since the developer is no stranger to erotic digital liaisons, we also asked how important the sex was to games likeMass EffectandDragon Age: Origins, and whether it was just sex for sex’s sake. “It’s not crucial for a roleplaying game to have sex, by any means,” answers Mike Laidlaw. “I think what it does is certainly provide a point though....

BioWare: we don’t need violence to attract gamers anymore

Mmm, delicious blood. Who can deny the thrill of watching to fly while playing a videogame? I can’t, especially on those stressful days when it just feelsgoodto beat the crap out of some virtual victims. The thrill is there, but BioWare seems to think that the gaming industry may not have to rely on it so much anymore, according to recent comments from an interview withGamesIndustry.biz. Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka commented on the future of gaming, saying that they believe that the industry is evolving:...

Brian Wilson gets the call in this MLB 2K11 short film

Last week, San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilsonappeared onLopez Tonightto promote 2K Sports’Major League Baseball 2K11. As you’ll see if youwatch the clip(and I strongly recommend that you do, even in spite of the presence of George Lopez), the dude is out-there, but in a hilariously awesome way. To wit: Wilson dyed his thick beard gray and came out as a seaman — with clownfish socks on, to boot. Wilson showed anMLB 2K11short film on the show, the first in a series of vignettes that he’s been working on for 2K Sports....

Carmack wants your “handheld” to “explore” his “dungeon”.

John Carmack (yes, the John Carmack behindDOOM,Quake,Wolfensteinand, by extension, every FPS you have ever played), is a genius. The man can program everything fromgame enginestoorbital rockets, and his latest venture is into the burgeoning world of cellular phone gaming. As much as we haveshunned gaming on the tiniest of platforms in the past, Carmack’s games are some of the bright spots (read: the only games I have on my phone). Even the most hardened console gamer should pay attention to me right now:EVE Online: Tyrannisis coming out on May 18th. And you thought snoggin’ another lad inBullywas bad. The Jack Thompsons of the world better watch out for kids looking to imitateChulip, due out on Valentine’s Day for the PS2, commonly classified as akissing simulator. In this case, it’s kissin’ the crap out of everything that moves, just like your weird aunt that nobody likes....

Children believe games affect their behavior

A study by Ofcomhas foundthat two thirds of surveyed children aged 12-15 claim that videogames affect their behavior more than television or movies. It seems that a lot of kids believe games make them more aggressive. The survey questioned over 2000 parents and children to find out how the use of technology was changing, and found that the bedrooms of many children are turning into “multi-media centers” with Internet access, digital cameras, mobile phones and more all on tap....
