Weekly Musing: Improving gaming communities

Our Musings topics give Destructoid community members the chance to have their voices heard on the front page. Seeing as Destructoid is hosting a PAX panel next week entitled, “how to make online gaming communities suck less,” we thought it’d be downright irresponsible not to involve you, the actual residents of this hear Dtoid gaming community, in on the discussion. It goes without saying that most gaming communities are something approaching horrendous: full of trolls, flaming, and attitudes of bullsh*t entitlement and superiority, it’s no surprise that the vast majority of people who visit your average gaming blog never bother to set up accounts and post their opinions....

Yet another set of sweet videogame posters

If I bought every halfway decent-looking poster I saw on the Internet, my walls would literally be covered with a collage of mismatched art — it’d look like someone vomited pop cultureeverywhere. As appealing as such an idea sounds, I need to keep my impulses in check. Although, thisset of minimalistic postersby Justin Russo isoh-my-God-good. He’s taken the less-is-more approach with his designs, but it works well on a few levels....

‘Bout time: Demigod demo now up for download

A little late to the party, but we will most certainly take it. Stardock and Gas Powered Games’Demigodis now playablein demo form, which is fantastic news for anyone who wants to see how well the action/strategy game can run on their computer before taking the plunge. The demo contains access to all four multiplayer modes, four of the demigods (Regulus, Rook, Sedna and Lord Erebus), and a single map, Cataract. This may not sound like much, but believe me when I say it’s more than enough to let you know ifDemigodis your cup of tea or not....

After furor, Madden 11 patch to offer Strategy Pad choice

If you thought that developers ignored feedback from consumers, here’s some evidence to refute that belief. TheMadden NFL 11democame out last week, and since its launch, hardcoreMaddenfans — who, apparently, are all old dogs who refuse to learn new tricks — have taken to message boards and Twitter to whine and moan about the new system for pre-play adjustments. InMadden NFL 11, EA Tiburon has moved everything to the D-pad (dubbed the “Strategy Pad”); until now, different controls triggered different adjustments....

Alan Wake gameplay video is short but sweet

Remedy has released a very short gameplay trailer forAlan Wakethat shows off … well … not a lot at all, really. A bit of walking, a few split-second fight scenes, and plenty of darkness. Not much in this half-minute video, but whatever, we’ll take what we can get, right? Alan Wakeis scheduled for release this year, although we’re still waiting for a firm date. Hopefully we’ll find out more by E3, at least....

Angry Birds board game is a real thing and I want it!

If you’re into mobile gaming as much as I am, then there is simply no way you’ve not heard ofAngry Birds, a game in which you launch furious beaked bastards at thieving green pigs. It dominated 2010, and it’s going to tackle 2011 in a surprisingly old fashioned way — arriving as a board game. Angry Birds Knock on Woodis a physical representation of the popular mobile game, as you physically toss little plastic birds at haphazardly built structures housing the porcine criminals....

Arkham Asylum ships 2.5 million bat-copies
