When Hi-Rez announcedTribes: Ascendat PAX Eastearlier this year, it was scheduled as a downloadable PC and Xbox Live Arcade title for 2011. It turned into afree-to-play titleshortly afterwards, and now Hi-Rez has told GameSpot that it is focusing primarily on PC development, meaning the XBLA release is put on hold for the time being. That doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen eventually, as Hi-Rez puts it: “An eventual XBLA version — and even PSN version — is not out of the question but neither will be this year....

Patents point to PSP2 touch-screen controls

Sony has filed a bunch of patents in October that seem to point towards a dual-screen, touch-controlled PSP2. One in particular appears to back up everything that’s been said about the system in recent weeks. The patents include a diagram for a “handheld device with two-finger touch triggered selection” and all of them state that any upcoming handheld will sport two screens, “Comprising: a case having first and second major surfaces; a visual display disposed on the first major surface; a touch interface disposed on at least one of the major surfaces....

PAX East 10: Hands-on Monday Night Combat

It’s possible to blend two different experiences into a single, coherent one. Look no further thanThe Red Starfor an example of a delightful cocktail of genres. But some studios are doing more, plucking bits and pieces out of numerous genres and tossing them into a game. Such isMonday Night Combat, a third-person shooter that borrows concepts and design from brawlers,Team Fortress 2and evenDOTA. The mix sounds weird, but here’s the deal: it totally works in the game’s favor....

Persona 4: Teddie’s head came off!

Oh no! Zipper-necked blue teddy bear Teddie deserves a real zipper and not some fake crap. He’s kind of the unsung hero of Atlus’ Persona 4, so if he wants to have a detachable head, well, then he should. Thoseunobtainable plush Teddiedid the actual character no justice. Cospa is out to fix that. Forget the eBay hunting and the exorbitant asking prices. Cospa is coming out with a proper unzippable Teddie for only $40....

Phoenix Wright is in your memes, jumping your sharks

Look, I found the first ten thousand Lolcat images as funny as everybody else did, but there comes a time to draw a line, and I thinkCapcom has proven it. The Internet meme hasalready been assimilatedinto theHalo 3hype machine, but Capcom feels that itsPhoenix Wrightseries can exploit the overdone (and these days, quite uninspired) feline images for its own ends. To this end, Capcom isrunning a contestin which all you have to do is place a Lolcat-style piece of text on aPhoenix Wrightimage....

Pimp your favorite Marvel Comics girls in Marvel Brothel

Despite the internet’s consistent ability to prove otherwise, there are things which I simply never expected to see with my own eyes. An example, just off the top of my head, is a game in which you play asX-Menfounder Charles Xavier, who has decided to make whores of various ladies in the Marvel Comics universe in an effort to improve human-mutant relations. That’s not so absurd, right? Much weirder things have cropped up....

Have you ever spent any time in a Best Buy, EB Games, or GameStop playing theirPlayStation 3demounit and have it freeze up on you? No, you haven’t… or so I was told by a Sony rep a few days back. Just before the launch of the PlayStation 3, I walked into a local EB Games and noticed that they had finally (three days prior to launch) received their demo kiosk. Pokemon Black & White sold 1 million copies in a day

I always warn people that make fun of Pokemon that they’re probably making fun of a game loved by someone they know. So many people love and play the everliving sh*t out of Nintendo’s Pokemon releases, so this sales data does not surprise me. Nintendo says internal sales data shows 1.08 million copies ofPokemon Black & Whitewere sold on the game’s U.S. launch day, March 6th. That beats the old record, set byDiamond & Pearl, which was still impressive at 780,000 copies in one day, saysIGN....

Pre-order God of War III at 7-11, get a free poster

No, that’s not a typo. Pre-orderingGod of War IIIat 7-Eleven will net you asweet-looking posterthat’s likely a lot less epic in size than what you’re currently picturing. Personally, I still have a hard time believing they really do sell videogames at those places. I guess that’s how theyget away withbreaking street dates. If questioned by any authority figures, the 7-11 employee can be all “what games? We only sell Slurpees and energy drinks....

Preparing for the future, US Army developing Pip-Boy 3000

Working with HP Labs, the US Armyhas been developinga device to replace much of the equipment soldiers currently carry in their packs. Using an e-ink screen with the components stamped on to flexible plastic, thewrist-mounted display unitcould replace field laptops, GPS units and radios as early as 2011....
