The Witcher 2 brings skill trees and sex in new screens

A brand new batch of gorgeous screenshots forThe Witcher 2: Assassins of Kingshas made its way online, with a focus on the game’s skill trees. There’s also a distinctly NSFW sex shot and a few beautiful gameplay images for those who just want the eye candy. By all accounts,The Witcher 2is looking set to be excellent. This is the kind of game that justifies having a gaming PC, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it....

The ‘Unconcluded Conundrum’ of Swarmites

Hothead scores my enduring affection once more with their latest promotional video forSwarm, coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network later this month.Unsolved Mysterieswas a staple program in my family’s weekly television lineup throughout the Robert Stack years. I actually remember the phone number ten years later. Please, if you have any information that could help solve the mystery as to who can be inflicting such pain and torment on these pathetic, wretched creatures deserving of little more than our scorn and to be used as playthings for our amusement, call1-800-876-5353....

This Metro 2033 trailer shows what you’ll be fighting

Followers of 4A Game’sMetro 2033take note: this is the trailer you’ve been waiting for. It’s the one where they stop hinting at the radiated horrors, and actually show what they look like up close. “Terrifying” is the word I’d use to describe these things, I think. It’s a shame this post-apocalyptic shooter will likely release with its fair share of technical issues — “jank,” as Brad and I often call it — because every other part of it looks absolutely fascinating....

Undeniable failure: An open letter to Microsoft on the Xbox 360 Dpad

Following ourcontroller episodeof RetroforceGO!, I have received a surprising number of emails and messages regarding the Xbox 360 Dpad and the countless mods, DIY fixes, and third-party alternatives that exist to solve the problem. Shockingly enough, I’ve even heard from a few slobbering brain cancer victims who find nothing wrong with it. Given the amount of feedback on this issue, I thought I’d take some time to address it further. Bear in mind that what you’re about to read is not whining....

Unused Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix intro

This comes from Udon Entertainment, the people that redid the characters and backgrounds in Capcom’sSSFIIHDTR. It turns out that they didn’t get to use the above intro in the final product. It looks pretty good, though. I wonder why it didn’t make the cut. What they did was recreate the original game’s intro with their art. Maybe it didn’t make the cut because Cammy’s little tongue flip was creepy. I seriously felt violated after I watched it for the first time....

VVVVVV designer’s Super Meat Boy mock-up is playable

You all remember those mock-up screens from other independent developers that were placed inSuper Meat Boy, don’t you? The image above is one such screen, created by Terry Cavanagh, the person responsible forVVVVVV. In a fun twist, his take onSuper Meat Boyis playable. Granted, it’s only a few rooms in length, is rough around the edges, and was “thrown together in a couple of hours.” Even still, it’s neat to experience first hand....

Warner Bros. Interactive lays off 25 employees

The word earlier yesterday afternoon was that Warner Brothers Interactive handed out pink slips to several employees across a few of its studios, includingFEAR 2developer Monolith. Turns out that information was correct. Shacknewsis reporting that WBI has laid off around 25 employees across three different studios: Monolith, Snowblind Studios, and Surreal Software. In a statement given to Shack, WBI said the layoffs were a result of WBI having “a few too many resources in certain functions …” The publisher expects to “see the studios grow” as each studio’s unannounced or other possible future projects become bigger than what they are now....
