2K Games has just announced thatCivilization IV: Colonizationis currently in development at Firaxis as part of the Games for Windows brand. This new standalone game will serve as an update to Meier’s 1994 PC title,Colonization. Players will take the role of colonists from England, France, Spain, or the Netherlands, seeking freedom and independence in the New World. Civilization IV: Colonizationwill feature an improved diplomacy system, historical figures that will guide your nation depending on gameplay choices, a new interface designed to be more accessible, online multiplayer and play by e-mail modes....

EA’s long running city building franchise is due a fifth installment, according toCVG, who report that the next issue ofUS Games for Windowsmagazine will see the announcement of what has become known asSimCity Societies. So far, the name is all that’s surfaced as far as information goes, which is leading to speculation that the game will be focused more on the inhabitants of your cities. It’s been a while since FOX found an excuse to talk rubbish about videogames, but luckily if you can’t find something real to talk about, you’ve always got “videogame addiction” on standby. Not only that, but FOX has brought back a familiar face — Cooper Lawrence, the woman whomade stuff up aboutMass Effect, and gotsoundly ownedfor her ignorance.Quite why we’re expected to believe the words of a woman who has alreadyadmittedthat FOXtells her what to believe, I don’t know....

Sony has officially announced thelatest security breach, which affected Sony Online Entertainment and led to the outage of all related services. As well as apologizing, Sony has confirmed that it will be extending subscriptions, as well as a further “make good” plan. Sony will be offering thirty day subscription extensions for its MMO users, andDC Universe Onlineplayers will also be getting a complimentary Batman-esque mask for their characters. The company said that it’s working on something forFree Realmsplayers, too....

Yesterday, it was revealed that Sony Online Entertainmentgot itself hacked for a laugh. The result was the theft of 12,700 credit card numbers. Yet more bad PR and panic circulated the Internet, but there’s a bit of “good” news for those potentially affected — only 900 of these cards were active. Turns out that the nefarious hackers ransacked an outdated database that went back as far as 2007, so most of the cards were invalid at the time of the breach....

It appears an early build ofGears of War 3has leaked to the Internet, which allegedly includes the full campaign and multiplayer modes and may be an E3 build. After looking around, this turns out to be a developer build or “JTAG” version of the game, which means you need to have a special modified Xbox 360 or a dev kit to run it. While this doesn’t mean the game can be pirated in the traditional sense of the word, as it’s not exactly easy to JTAG your console for the average person, it does mean that places like YouTube and streaming sites may become a haven for spoiler-richGears of War 3content....

Activision is not messing around when it comes toModern Warfare 2, and has demonstrated that it will literally hunt down anybody engaging in shenanigans involving its massive FPS title. When one cheeky thief was discovered offering aModern Warfare 2Xbox 360 bundle on Craigslist, the evil publisher hired a private investigator totrack downand apprehend the suspect. IPCyberCrimewas brought in and managed to track down the seller, discovering that he worked at a retailer and had conspired with friends to steal bundles from the store and sell them on....

WhenDynasty Warriors Strikeforcewas released on PSP, the common consensus among fans (myself included) was that it should have been on home consoles and included online co-op. Well, here’s a brand new trailer forDynasty Warriors Strikeforceon home consoles with online co-op. Yes. This is great news, asStrikeforcewas perhaps the bestDWgame released in ages and it was let down by the reliance on PSP ad-hoc multiplayer, something that’s very hard to get going in the West....

As you may see in this video, the controls forNikudan(Japanese title) are pretty solid. The game doesn’t seem to tolerate too many sweeping or drastic moves, but fast jabs and bodyblows seem to register just fine. More arching motions, like hooks and uppercuts, seemed to require slower motions, which sort of squashes the whole “kicking a real dude’s ass simulater” effect. Still, if you couldn’t tolerate the relative cuteness ofWii SportsBoxing, this could be a fine alternative for you....
