If you love it, change it: Team Fortress 2

[Editor’s note: Sharpless takes a look atTeam Fortress 2and tells us how he would improve it as part of this month’sMonthly Musing. — CTZ] In many ways,Team Fortress 2is kind of the bastard child ofThe Orange Box.Half-Life 2and its sequels are regarded as being innovative and quite legendary, andPortalis every games-are-art indief*ck’s favorite squeeze toy.TF2, while respected and well-liked, is the immature, rebellious sibling. It has nothing quasi-revolutionary to add to the gaming world, and it has no immersive narrative to draw people into it....

Indie Nation #40: Fantastic Blood Boy

Fantastic Blood Boyisn’t just remarkable because it’s a fun game (though it is), or because it has awesome visuals and an awesomely almost-but-not-quite-annoying soundtrack (though it does), but because, when explained verbally or through text, it sounds likethe most confusing game in history. Once you’ve played with it for about a minute, however, everything becomes completely clear. Made for theTIGSourceVideo Game Name Generator competition,Fantastic Blood Boyteaches us how quickly we gamers can internalize and comprehend even the most seemingly confusing game rules, so long as they’re presented in a graceful and consistent way through the gameplay itself....

Infinity Ward has lost twelve total Modern Warfare 2 devs

The Infinity Ward exodus continues and seems to show no signs of slowing down. What started as a trickle of departures is slowly gaining enough momentum to be considered a torrent, with the latest numbers showing twelve key personnel making their exit. Lead animator Mark Grigsby and lead character animator Paul Messerly are the latest to leave, taking five and eight years of company experience with them. It seems that Activisions attempts to make Zampella and West look like heartless Bill Sykes characters has done little to breed solidarity at theModern Warfarestudio....

Interview: Talking Rage with Tim Willits

My interview with longtime id Software member Tim Willits began with my pitch for a Destructoid crossover-promotion with id and the Hilton that houses QuakeCon. Willits wasn’t very receptive to my idea, but he agreed to sit down and talkRagewith me anyway. His loss, just saying. What’s your current role onRage?...

Kicking EDF’s ass with Red Faction: Guerrilla’s ‘Walkers’

Sure,Red Faction: Guerrilla‘s “Walkers” (see: mechs) aren’t as cool as one of the raddest weapons ever, the Ostrich Hammer, but their ability to obliterate outweighs their lack of style, if I did my math correctly. For your viewing pleasure, we have got another video — which examines the three different types of Walkers found inGuerrilla— located after the jump. There’s a big slow one, a small fast one, and even one that shoots missiles....
