Alone in the Dark hits PS3 in Autumn, with bonus fun!

Atari hascome out and saidthat the PlayStation 3 version ofAlone in the Darkwill be out sometime in the autumn. While talk of a delay is rarely good, the news should be salved somewhat by the fact that it will have bonus content when it finally does come out. I have made no secret of my gushing excitement for this game, and while I doubt I could hang on until nearer the end of the year to start setting things alight in Central Park, the promise of extra pyromania is pretty tempting indeed....

Army of Two: the 40th Day has multiplayer, guns

A developer would be out of its mind to not include a competitive multiplayer component in its game nowadays, right? This afternoon we were reminded that EA Montreal’s cooperative-focused shooterArmy of Two: the 40th Dayhas more than one online mode. In fact, it appears as if the game will ship with four: Warzone, Team Deathmatch, Control, and Extraction. We’re worried about the latter mode, Extraction (Horde). Four bros on one screen might generate too much Dude Power, which based on recent scientific research by some college somewhere, is known to cause universal implosion....

Battle: Los Angeles game invades XBLA, PC

The Konami-publishedBattle: Los Angelesgame has snuck ontoXbox Live Arcadea PC for download. The release comes right in conjunction with the release of the film of the same name, which isgetting panned left and right. (Our sister film site,Flixist, says it’s just a’ight.) Since the game is kind of a surprise, I went ahead and downloaded the demo to see what was up. Turns out it’s a first-person shooter, and — considering it’s a download-only title — not a bad looking one, either....

Bayonetta gets her gun-shoe freak on in new trailer

WithBayonettaout in Japan, Sega can finally concentrate on saturating the West with video trailers and promotional chicanery. Here’s the first trailer, a new video that shows off the weapons and combos in Platinum Games’ over-the-top action title. It really is an awesome game. Of course, the quality of the game and what you do in it doesn’t matter. Whatdoesmatter is that Bayonetta’s head is allegedly too small for her body. You may continue to make those baseless and untrue accusations while I continue to build my filthy, stained, slightly worrying Bayonetta shrine in the cupboard....

Forget about who Liara’s father is, or where the Illusive Man is located. The big mystery of theMass Effectfranchise has to be what one specific Quarian looks like: Tali’Zorah. What’s underneath the mask? Many of the characters in the franchise will see a makeover forMass Effect 3— Jack, for example, will wear more ‘mature’ attire, and Ashley will let her hair down. Bit Transmission episode 4 on the verge of recording

We’re lucky to be recording at all, to be honest. Colette is traveling this weekend, so she was unavailable. And Jonathan, well, he has PAX East literally on his doorstep. I’m lucky he’s even talking to me with all that action going down. Filling the cavernous gap left by Colette’s absence will be the endlessly delightful Ashley Davis. We could think of no person we’d rather have around to talk aboutCave Story....

Blitz shuts down 1UP, prepping for IndieCity launch

Blitz Games Studio has closed down their 1UP service over the weekend as a result of dirt-cheap mobile apps and the dominance of Steam in the market. 1UP producer Neil Holmes had this to say: What’s changed is that the market seems to have shifted quite a lot in the way games are sold. Two years ago you could go through all of the portals and you could get business in all [of them]....

Blur’s power-ups encourage dickish racing

We recently had a chance to play upcoming PS3, Xbox 360 and PC racerBlursplit-screen multiplayer (more on that later today) and it was there that we had a chance to see what the game’s really about: The power-ups. There’s a lot of racers out there, so we appreciate that Bizarre Creations is trying to do something a bit different. What’s different here is that the game revolves around these power-ups. Sure, good racing technique will get you far, but being a vindictive little sh*t with these devastating weapons will get you much father....

Boy unleashes vengeance on Wii in a stream of urine

The more I think about this story, the more it makes perfectly rational sense. A four year old boy in Fleetwood, Lancashire was upset when his older brother chose to pay more attention to their new Christmas gift, a Nintendo Wii, than to him. Whether the boy was angry because he wasn’t allowed to play or jealous of the Wii’s influence over his brother is not certain, but it seems he urinated on the console and has now rendered it unplayable....

Brutal Legend makes censorship fun

Filters have been around in videogames ever since you could toggle the blood in old fighting games. It’s amazing, then, that it’s taken this long for a videogame to make a filter that’s actually part of the game and quite amusing.Brütal Legendtakes a novel approach to censorship, with a rather novel way of letting you decide whether or not you want swearing in your game. The swear filter comes by way of a cinematic that Double Fineshowed off at PAX, with Eddie Riggs talking to a member of his wannabe metal band, Kabbage Boy....

C&C 4 Tiberian Twilight enters into open beta

As announced this morning, the beta will feature four maps ready for 5v5 GDI and NOD destruction. The curious persistent experience system is said to be in full working order in the beta. Even better, EXP will “transition” to the full game when it launches on March 16th in North America — not a bad deal if you think about it. And you should, because thinking is basically like doing strategy and practice makes perfect....
