There’s a Centipede: Infestation coming to Wii, 3DS

Atari has announced a new version of a classic franchise,Centipede: Infestationtoday. It’s slated for release on the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii this year. The game’s not what you’re expecting, either — it’s a “post-apocalyptic action experience that features run-n-gun shooting style gameplwy with tower defense-style objects.” You’ll play as a orphaned teen named Max who has to fight off giant bugs in this insect wasteland. He’ll team up with Maisy, some kind of teen botanist who has the power to bring plant life back to the ruined Earth....

For iPad owners who have always longed for one of those miniature arcade cabinets — the kind that can fit on a table but are still pretty dang expensive — this may be a dream come true. Just take my money, ThinkGeek, and get out of here. Give your iPad a proper home with the iCade[Tomopop]

THQ announces game based on The Last Airbender film

Unsurprisingly, THQ has announced that it will be publishing a game based on the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan film,The Last Airbender. The film is based on the Nickelodeon cartoon,Avatar: The Last Airbender, which had to drop the “Avatar” for obviously reasons that start with name “James” and ends with “Academy Award winning 3D blockbuster film.” While the Shyamalan movie might be decent, I have little faith that the game — which is slated for release on Wii and Nintendo DS only — will deliver anything but a standard movie-to-game cash-in....

UK Charts: Black Ops retakes the gold

Unsurprisingly,Gran Turismo 5‘s time at the top was a brief respite fromCall of Duty: Black Ops, as Activision’s latest shooter installment reclaims the number one chart position. Sony’s racing simulator has now dropped to fourth place, beaten out byFIFA 11andBrotherhood. Michael Jackson: The Experiencecame in at number six despite not cracking the top twenty last week. It’s made a good leap, but the performance must surely be disappointing for Ubisoft. Even worse isDonkey Kong Country Returns, which failed to make the top ten and came in at number twelve....

Utterly pathetic: Australia bans Silent Hill: Homecoming

Christ on a ferris wheel, there is something deeplywrongwith Australia. Those defenders of Aussie innocence, the OFLC, haverefused to rateSilent Hill: Homecoming, effectively banning the videogame from sale in Kangaroo Land. Australia has either banned or forced the censorship of a ludicrous number of videogames in the past, due to the incompetent inability of its government to enforce an 18+ age rating. Because of this, most interactive material suitable for adults can’t get a release....

Video: WTF is Nintendo’s new WiiWare title, Orbient?

Nintendosurprised us all this morningby releasing a new, previously unseen WiiWare title,Art Style: Orbient. The game is the first in theArt Styleseries that Nintendo are saying combine “deep game play with atmospheric flair and simple, elegant controls that anyone can pick up and enjoy.” Curious, I decided to hop on WiiWare and spend 600 of my own Wii Points to see whatOrbientwas all about. I grabbed video of the introductory tutorial that you may watch above, but the general idea involves pushing and pulling a star using gravity (the A button) and anti-gravity (the B button)....

Wii Music surprises us by having the Mario Bros. theme in it. SHOCK!

You’re going to call me a sourhearted Scrooge for it, but I must confess that I have grown tired of hearing theMario Bros.theme tune. Perhaps it’s the billion videos of people playing it with guitars and trumpets and whatever they can find on Youtube, but it really doesn’t fill me with that warm and fuzzy feeling inside. That’s one reason why thisWii Musicclip doesn’t excite me.The second reason why this video doesn’t excite me is that it isn’t very exciting, which is a coincidence....

Xbox Originals apparently region locked, no Puyo Pop for you

Not that it comes as a complete shock to anyone, but it’s looking like the games available on Microsoft’sXbox Originalsdownload service still suffer from the foul plague known as region locking. Seems Spencer over atSiliconeralogged into his Japanese Live account to give it a shot, and upon attempting to downloadMagatama, was presented with an error message, saying that the game was not available for download in his area. Same goes for Puyo Pop Fever, which sucks, because that game was awesome on Dreamcast and I myself was hoping to snag the Xbox version....
