Here’s what’s new with Vindictus

Vindictushas been out since October so this may be old news to some of you but I played it for the first time earlier today. I typically don’t like MMORPGs or most RPGs in general because the whole “let’s take turns hitting each other!” is annoying to me. Nexon’sVindictus, however, isn’t really like what I was expecting and is more about the action. To the point that it reminded me a lot ofGauntlet....

Indie Nation #53: The Linear RPG

PlayingLost Odysseyto completion taught me one very important thing about myself: I hate RPGs. Not the fun sort of hate that evokes a misanthropic glee — the kind of hate one usually reserves for Fox News and Uwe Boll — but a depressing, unspectacular, bummer hate that I found difficult to put into words. That is, until I playedThe Linear RPG. A clever game-as-game-criticism in the same vein asAchievement Unlocked,The Linear RPGreduces the JRPG structure to its most basic, minimal parts, and reveals the underlying inanity of it all....

Kinect makes one wheelchair-bound gamer happy

I’m not known for my positive Kinect articles, but a reader shared a little story he experienced firsthand and it was heartwarming enough to share. Payne works in an unnamed retail outlet and was demoing Microsoft’s hype machine to customers when a mother approached him. “A single mother of about eight kids came in, one of them was disabled in a wheelchair and couldn’t move his hands,” Payne explains. “The only part of his body he had control over was his head and arms to his elbows....

Kojima hard at work on two titles, wants to compete with the West

I love theMetal Gearseries, andMGS4was a great send-off for Solid Snake, but I’m itching to see what else Hideo Kojima is capable of. Kotick still considers West & Zampella his friends

Despite all the legal wrangling and public airing of dirty laundry, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick still wants Jason West and Vince Zampella to know that he loves them. The former Infinity Ward bosses were fired under a bitter cloud and have been engaged in a high profile slapfight with Activision ever since, but Kotick has attempted to demonstrate that there’s a heart under all the decayed and brittle anti-flesh. “Since we terminated the two executives at Infinity Ward, approximately 35 others have resigned and it is likely that few more people will leave as well,” stated Kotick during a financial call....
