You heard it here first — only on FoxToid. Joe Musashi, lead in Sega’sShinobiseries of videogames, and Ryu Hayabusa, protagonist of Tecmo’sNinja Gaidenseries are both living a lie. Neither have undergone Ninjitsu training. “I tried to go on as long as I could,” said Hayabusa, who also stars in other Tecmo titles, like fighterDead or Alive. “You can only live a lie for so long, and it was only a matter of time before I was found out....

Ezio in Rome for next Assassin’s Creed

While the jump fromAssassin’s Creedto its sequel brought about a whole new set of faces and places, don’t expect the same for the follow up. In its third quarter financial conference call today, Ubisoft revealed that the Ubisoft Montreal-developed title would not only star Ezio, but would take place in Rome. There, the assassin will continue his quest to destroy the Templar Order, this time at its source. The title, which is said to feature an important multilayer component, could ship anytime between holiday 2010 or March 2011....

Free App of the Day: Run Kattie

Here’s a stupid game for you. You’ll play it for one minute exactly. No more, no less. Well, possibly less. Anyway, it’s a “runner” style game except it takes place on a 3D rather than 2D plane. You make a cat run jump on buildings and collect things. That is it. It’s calledRun Kattie. The cat doesn’t really seem to be running all that much. Kill me. [Got a Free App suggestion?...

GDC 2007: Sitting down with Sony

I just got back from a very different kind of event with Sony. Well, maybe event is a strong word, it was more of a sit down with just a few of us gaming journos and some of the biggest names in Sony — Phil Harrison, David Karraker and others. It was an incredible discussion because we were allowed to be as open as possible and ask whatever we wanted. Sony, especially Phil, was very honest with us — or as honest as they could be....

Go behind the scenes of Red Dead Redemption’s soundtrack

Red Dead Redemptionis my current front-runner for Game of the Year, and frankly, I don’t think anything else will eclipse it. Much of my love for the game stems from itsstirring score, which Bill Elm and Woody Jackson composed. Rockstar has put out a four-and-a-half-minute featurette detailing the process by which Elm and Jackson put together the soundtrack and integrated it into the game, and as someone who’s interested in music composition, I found the video fascinating....

Halo: Reach might use Project Natal

Microsoft’sProject Natalis an attempt to snatch grannies from their Wiis or a brilliant way to make gamers look like bigger retards while huddled in front of expensive television sets. Either way, it doesn’t matter: Microsoft’s motion controller thing is coming and with it, a host of new gaming possibilities. It’s likely that next year (if that actually is when Natal hits), we’ll surely be assaulted with a variety of videogame tie-ins — many of the quirky variety, no doubt....

Hands down, the scariest box art ever created

Jesus. Where do I start? Hamza and I are here in the office. When we first saw this come up on his monitor, we both exploded in laughter. But emotions quickly changed. This cover art for Wii title My Ballet Studio is actually quite scary. Take a closer look. First off, notice that the alien-headed freaks do not have reflections. “Oh my God, they’re f*cking vampires,” Hamza screamed. These floating alien bodies also have no depth....

Harmonix reveals Rock Band Music Store along with other updates

While the question remains as to how long Harmonix and MTV Games will continue to support the current iteration ofRock Band, it’s evident that they’re committed to providing additional game content on a frequent basis. Prior to the game’s release, I was told — in so many words — that there would be no “f**king around” when it came to downloadable content, and there’s no question that they’ve delivered. With weeklyRock Bandcontent flooding the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PlayStation Store, the amount of songs and available selection is quickly becoming unmanageable, and Harmonix admits as much....
