If the Destructoid editors were videogame characters

They say there is a doppelgänger for every living person on this planet — a look-alike twin wandering the streets with the same features as you. Yeah, it creeps me out, too. But does this same concept hold true with videogames? It’s been three decades (!) since videogames have become popular, introducing the universe to hundreds of thousands of distinct-looking videogame characters. Surely there has to be at leastonevideogame character in that massive batch that resembles you, right?...

Itagaki not welcome after Tecmo/Koei merger

Aww, play nice, boys! Koei president Kenji Matsubara hasmade it quite clear that, despite his own company having no history of issues with ex-Tecmo designer Tomonobu Itagaki, there will be no place for him after Tecmo and Koei merge. Considering Itagaki left Tecmo under a cloud of bitterness and lawsuits, I doubt the controversialNinja Gaidencreator will care much, but there were rumors that he might return to the fold. Matsubara has put paid to such gossip by definitively stating that there would be “no possibility” of the shades-adorned loudmouth being employed by Koei Tecmo Holdings....

It’s a Wii with better games! Oh…wait.

I can’t readEngadget Japan, and I don’t care. This page could say this mod was made from my mother’s intestines and I’d likely still be over here making my stupid American noises of glee and bouncing about. But nevermind that! What you see here, my friends, is the Nii, a sweet little combination of the Wii and the SNES. Thanks toDMV‘s mad translation skills, we do know that it was made by a guy namedKotomi, is supposed to be evocative of theFamicom DS and MegaDrive DS, and you can insert the cartridge in the disc slot (this latter bit is for those of you whose eyes were eaten out by sea turtles long, long ago)....

Jack Thompson sends gay porn to judge, doesn’t even buy dinner first

My friends, it’s almost time to start popping champagne corks, for the glorious day must surely be soon upon us when Jack Thompson’s legal career is curb-stomped savagely into a fine red mist. For quite some time now things have been spirally downwards for everyone’s favourite self-promoting human car crash.Professional misconduct charges, accusations of insanity, heart problems, and a series of actions not dissimilar to themalformedravingsof aVictorianasylum inmatehave been steadily collecting together to built a grotesque portrait of freakery and failure not long for the professional world....

Jeff Minter is a whiny emo: Complains about Frogger outselling Space Giraffe

This is hilarious. Jeff Minter, old school cult developer who recently released the trippy, arty and not-very-goodSpace Giraffefor Xbox Live Arcadehas thrown a bitchfitover the aforementioned game’s lacklustre sales. Because the updatedFroggerhas done so much better on Arcade than some silly light show, whiny Minter now sees very little point in making games. not seeing a lot of reason to continue even trying to make games, at this point, when a remake ofFrogger, one of the worst games in the history of old arcade games, can outsellSpace Giraffethat we put so much love and effort into, by more than ten to one, in one week....

Linkin’ Park game coming to iPhone, all 8-bit and stuff

Linkin Park is not even close to what I would call, “a band that I’m going to listen to and enjoy.” I think they came just a little too late for me to appreciate all the angst and such from their first couple of albums and I’ve simply tuned out since then. I was never able to identify with them. It would seem that the band and I have a lot more in common than I thought, as they’re about to release a retro-styled iPhone game calledLinkin’ Park 8-Bit Rebellion....

Massive hammer GET: Clash of the Titans screenshots

It’s hard to say why I keep choosing to write aboutClash of the Titans. It’s as if a mysterious force is pulling me toward this game adaptation of the upcoming film. It looks to be a decidedly mediocre action game, and yet, I feel oddly compelled to continue posting all of the screenshots Namco Bandai sends our way. This time — thank goodness! — there’s actually something worth highlighting. Namely, the bigass hammer Perseus has his hands on, and the dude with part of his brain showing....

Metroid Prime concept art shows Kraid battle, ice baboon

I’ve just now gotten into Retro’sDonkey Kong Country Returns, and so far, I agree witheverything Chad Concelmo said in his review. It’s awesome. Playing the game has me desperate to see Retro return to theMetroidseries. The brilliant level design, the ingeniously placed hidden areas, the need to use your multiple abilities to fully explore levels, and the plentiful forms of new and fascinating wildlife all makeDonkey Kong Country Returnsa classic, and I’d love Retro use those same element to create a new 2D, home consoleMetroidgame....
