The Podcastle records tomorrow: Ask us some stuff, thanks!

The grim reality of yet another Podcastle looms on the horizon like a big looming thing. On this week’s thrilling episode, we will doubtless be talking about theScrewAttack Gaming Conventionthat I did an attending of. We will also probably talk about dead celebrities a bit, just because that would be quite a horrible thing to do, and we’re currently trying to lose as many listeners as possible. It’s sure to be a show packed full of mirth, frolics and dreary, unbearable listening....

The Real Texas looks like a lo-fi trip

In top-down action-RPGThe Real Texas, you play a rancher who has, for better or worse, entered a portal to a purgatory dimension of Texas as represented by a town called Strange. At least, that’s what I think is going on here. This game is out of control and I love it. You ought to watch the trailer to gain a vague understanding of what it’s about. According to indie developer Kitty Lambda,The Real Texascontains “lots of secret items and areas, NPC day/night cycles, bosses, puzzles, dungeons, zombies and cross-dressing....

To celebrate this milestone, we here at Destructoid picked the best fifty games of the last ten years (the best of the ’00s!). The only rule of this week-long series — other than making sure each game was released between 2000 and today — is that only one game from each series could make the final cut....

More recently, Mandeville Films was involved withThe Fighter,Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2, andThe Muppets. Man, I hope they get Mike Patton to voice The Darkness. Even better, have him play every single role in the film. That’d get me into the theater, no question....

TY the Tasmanian Tiger reemerging on Facebook

You could probably be forgiven for having forgotten aboutTY the Tasmanian Tiger. Honestly, the only reason I remember it was due to watching copies of all three installments of the series languish on the shelves back in my retail days. Always struck me as a low-rentGexwith a slightly more annoying accent. It seems we may be seeing the Aussie marsupial (which bears the name of a feline because the world just needs to be difficult in that way) make a return to games....

Unreal Engine contest runner-up The Ball gets a publisher

The Ball,a first-person puzzle game from Teotl Studios, took second place at the 2010 “Make Something Unreal” contest. Thanks to Tripwire Interactive (Red Orchestra), it’s coming to retail and Steam this fall. Easily my favorite part about the game is how its seemingly silly name is attached to such a gruesome concept. I mean, look at that screenshot up there! The premise is neat too — your only weapon is a giant artifact (aka “the ball”), and you have to make your way through puzzle- and trap-filled ruins....

Untapped Potential: Motion control

[It’s time for anotherMonthly Musing— the monthly community blog theme that provides readers with a chance to get their articles and discussions printed on the frontpage. — CTZ] Think back to early 2006. Nintendo, the darling of the industry that had a rough couple of generations came out and said they were going to revolutionize the industry. We would have a new way to play games, one that would simultaneously be simpler and allow for more precision and immersion....

Used 3DS systems and games around Tokyo already

It’s only been about a week since launch but I found a few places that had Nintendo 3DS systems used. There are places you can get them new, but that’s still pretty rare around these parts. Because of this I was surprised to see used systems out there today in Tokyo. Shibuya’s big ol’ Tsutaya had these two black 3DS systems available today (shown above). There’s really nothing in the way of a discount for getting a used one, but that’s to be expected considering how hard they are to come by....
