No Wii DVD for thee… for now

Are you one of the last remaining holdouts basking in the glory of a self-imposed exile from technological leaps and avoiding DVDs until Nintendo outfits its next iteration of the Wii with built in DVD playback? If so, the wait to make the “current-gen” jump just got a little longer.IGNis reporting that Nintendo has decided put off plans of producing a DVD-ready until sometime next year. November NPD: Xbox 360 at 1.37 million, Wii at 1.27m

White Christmas? More like Green Christmas for all the console makers out there. Microsoft had a splendid November, according to the latest NPD numbers with 1.37 million units sold. That makes six months at the top, saysBloomberg. Kinect was probably a big help. The motion sensor also helped push up peripheral sales numbers. They’re up almost 70 percent over last year. Nintendo’s also doing quite nicely with 1.27 million sold in November, coming back from a couple of slow months this fall....

Our first look at the Mass Effect Series 2 figures

It was neat coming back to BioWare’s biggamescom announcement—Mass Effect 2on PlayStation 3 — after a week-long vacation filled with scary experiences that didn’t revolve around the Internet. The recently surfaced shots of DC Direct’s newMass Effectfigures are neat, but not quite on the same level. Even still, as a Garrus fanboy, I’ll take what I can get. Series 2 includes him and Mordin (shown above), in addition to Miranda and Legion....

Pachter thinks Ubisoft’s DRM is just lovely

Game industry analyst and monkey juggler Michael Pachter does not think that Ubisoft’s DRM is a bad thing. In fact, as a lawyer he believes it is Ubisoft’s right to protect its games in any way the publisher sees fit. “I’m an old guy,” he says. “I’m ethical and I’m a lawyer by trade. I feel if you steal a copy of a game by copying a friend’s file then it’s like going into the shop and stealing a copy....

PAX 08: Seven things that will get you kicked out of PAX

Gamers, in general, are a rowdy bunch. Whether it’s because they’re natural party animals, games make them violent, or they simply haven’t left their basements in years, getting them together in one place can end in trouble. So the organizers for the Penny Arcade Expo have set forth a few simple rules of conduct. Taken directly from the conventions program: Well, it looks like I’m going to have to re-write Destructoid’s entire schedule for the weekend....

Valve is bringingLeft 4 Dead 2to PAX this year where they will debut the new level, Dark Carnival. Blurlead designer Gareth Wilsonhas been commenting onone of the racing genre’s most obligatory features — the leaderboard — making a bold claim that, despite the appearance of leaderboards in nearly every game on the planet, the amount of people who actuallycareabout being number one is minimal. Pixeljunk pres pondering PSP Piracy

If Q-Games’ Dylan Cuthbert was sincere in a recent string of blue tweets (spotted byVG247), there’s a chance we might not see anotherPixelJunkvideogame on the PSP. The president of the PJ studio recently commented on piracy of his game, openly questioning the fate of the series on the handheld if sales don’t hold up because of theft. And you thought the reason would be tied to the irrational fear of sliding faceplates (slidoffaceophobia), right?...

Pix’n Love Rush jumps from iPhone to PlayStation Minis

Previously an iDevice exclusive,Pix’n Love Rushwill soon be making the transition to both PlayStation 3 and PSP by way of the Minis label. It’s a swanky, arcade-style platform game with distinct visual callbacks, in case you missed the original version. No price yet, but I have to imagine it won’t break the bank based on the affordable marketplace it comes from and comparable Minis releases. As for whenPix’n Love Rushwill be up for purchase, well, officially it’s “soon....
