Daily Steam sale: Oblivion, GTA IV, War for Cybertron

We’re looking at an interestingassortment of games today on Steam. I have never heard of a few of these before, and then you’ve got well-known time sinks likeOblivionandGTA IV. That’s not a complaint, though — I’d rather have variety. I’m waiting for you strategy buffs to come out of the woodwork and tell us about these games. You know, the ones with less-than-marketable names.

David Jaffe criticizes media praise for ‘art’ games

David Jaffe, ever a man after my own heart, has slammed the praise that people pour on “art” games. He claims that most art games aren’t as compelling as people pretend, and focusing on them only serves to devalue the medium. “Just because there’s wind blowing and a minimal soundtrack and vast open spaces to explore and a slow pace doesn’t mean that the game you are playing is art,”he wrote. “Shining the powerful media light on these sorts of games — that tell you they are important but are not really all that engaging/interesting play wise and are nowhere near as emotional or meaningful as most B-rate, night time dramas on network television — means that the media light and publisher cash gets taken away from traditional games....

Dead Space 2 squirts out some fleshy screenshots

Dead Space 2is getting ready to creep us all our on January 25, and EA is celebrating by throwing out some squirmy screenshots to ruin your appetite. While the selection is modest, the pics don’t skimp on the hideousness, which is what I know you all came here for. I’m really eager to finally lay hands on this. I’ve been casually looking forward to the game for months, but now that it’s almost upon us, I’m pretty stoked....

Dead Space: Extraction team talk story

Dead Space: Extractiontakes place three weeks before the originalDead Space. Its events run parallel to the anime and other assorted pieces of fiction. You’ll get to watch the invasion unfold and even meet characters from the peripheral content. I know this because the video below the fold told me this. Earlier this afternoon, Visceral Games released another developer diary for the Wii-exclusive shooter. It focuses on the story, so give it a look if you’re interested in what Visceral Games’ has cooked up for the prequel....

E3 08: Bionic Commando hands-on

First things first: Chad did adamn fine writeupof his impressions of the newBionic Commandoat GDC, and Capcom has a similar build here at E3. The major difference between the two builds is a simple, but incredibly important one: the one at E3 was playable for everyone. And I played it. I’d highly suggest reading Chad’s article for a quick summary of the actual events of the demo (there’s a really awesome explosion!...

E3 2007: Feet-on with Wii Fit

The Dtoid dolphin delight came up with this clever title, and I couldn’t resist Chad’s alternative “Hands-on” phrase for the Nintendo foot device.Wii Fithas to be the only Nintendo game that’s ever made players start stripping and laying down on the floor, and I couldn’t wait to jump on the Wii Balance Board that comes with the game. I only had time to play the non-exercise games, but honestly, I don’t think I’d give Yoga a try in public or private even if I did have the time for it....

E3 2007: First Soul Calibur IV trailer

Yesterday,Haleyposted the firstSoul Calibur Legendstrailer and he wasn’t too impressed with. I must say I agree with him in terms of the graphics: the games textures look pretty washed out and I think the Wii is capable of better then this (I’m pretty sure evenSoul Calibur IIon the game GameCube looked better). I can’t say anything about the controles yet.On the other hand, the first trailer ofSoul Calibur IVwas released today and this one looks really good....
