Should kids be banned from videogames? New ‘study’ claims they should be

It’s that time of the day, boys and girls, time for another bit of “research” that tells us all how mentally unhealthy videogames are. Today’s slice ofalarm-flavored study piesuggests that children under the age of seven should be banned from games because it can “damage their attention spans,” and is leading to a rise in attention deficit-disorder which has nothing to do with the over-diagnosis of kids who act like kids....

Six ways in which Pokemon really bothers me

Believe it or not, I really likePokémon. I’ve been a big fan of the series since I was a child, but even though my interest in the series diminished as I got older, I still find myself dipping back into the monster-catching stupidity now and then. I recently picked upPokémonPearlfor my DS Lite, and have already lost hours upon hours doing the exact same things I did inPokémonRedalmost ten years ago, yet still loving every shameful, childish second of it....

In apost yesterday on the PlayStation.Blog, he outlined all the things that Sony has in store for the PSN this year. Sony: Wii an ‘impulse buy’

Sometimes Sony iswrongand on very rare occasions, Sony is right. This is one of those rare occasions. SCEA spokesmanDavid Karraker revealedin an interview with the New York Times that the “Wii could be considered an impulse buy more than anything else.” Think this is true? Let’s consider this: The Wii carried a huge amount of hype into the holidays; The Wii is built for the short term; The PlayStation 3 costs a hefty $600 while the Wii comes in at $249; Niether system really has the game lineup to warrant a serious purchase, yet the hype is carrying the Wii through....

Spend the weekend dodging traffic in Time4Cat

You can thank Kyle Orland for this week’s freebie,Time4Cat. This morning,he tweeted aboutthe game’s dangerous ability to suck away your free time. After spending most of today playing it on and off, I can confirm his statement to be accurate. To sumTime4Catup briefly, you run around a busy intersection as a cat with an apparently never-ending appetite. The longer food goes untouched, the fewer points it ends up being worth. Also, brushing up against funky pedestrians results in a game over, but they only move when you move....

At last month’s Tokyo Game Show,I got my hands on Square-Enix’sStar Ocean: First Departurefor the PSP. The day has been saved by bothGametrailersand Jeux-France, giving us both video and screenshots of the upcoming RPG.The above trailer is little more than a Japanese teaser, but it does give you some idea of the quality of the cutscenesI talked about earlier....

It’s been a while since we heard that Sam Raimi was going to head up aWorld of Warcraftmovie, but the self-admittedWoWfan says that they are still hard at work and moving forward with the production. Well, moving forward at a really slow and steady pace. At the Saturn Awards Collider.com got a chance to speak with Raimi, who passed on makingSpider-Man 4, and he admitted that he was still committed to making the movie, but that they weren’t really that far along in it....

Steam has Just Cause 2, Beat Hazard, and more on sale

“GAH!!! Please stop! I’m already in the red this month….My wallet is screaming,” writes commenter Insanity-Oo in response to the plethora of videogame sales as of late. Here I was, all willing to take up a vow of silence when a few new Steam deals descended from the heavens. My rule is that if I partake in a deal, it’s my Internet duty to inform those poor Destructoid readers — who are starving themselves in the name of excellent savings — about it rather than keep to myself....

Stranger’s Wrath and Munch’s Oddysee patched

Many of us who boughtThe Oddboxxfor PC last month were left disappointed in the worst possible way. This collection ofOddworldgames —Abe’s Oddysee,Abe’s Exoddus,Munch’s Oddysee, andStranger’s Wrath— contained titles that were unplayable on multiple levels. Personally, I couldn’t get more than ten frames per second withStranger’s Wrath. A patch has come out and thank eff, the game is now playable and actually runs in widescreen. I can’t speak for the current status ofMunch’s Oddysee, but it’s supposed to not crash now....

Super Meat Boy in my Dead Space 2?

It’s more likely than you think. Seems the guys at Visceral might be fans of a certain skinless indie hero, as they hid this little mural image ofSuper Meat Boyin the elementary level ofDead Space 2. Of course, a little bit of artistic license has been taken, but it’s certainly him. The lads at Team Meat aresuitably amusedby the “cameo” appearance, and I’m kicking myself that I never noticed it while playing myself....
