Sony has had its ups and downs over the past few years, and there’s no denying that the company isn’t quite so hot as it once was. According to one former Sony chief, there’s a reason for this … a foreigner at the helm. Koichiro Tsujino, ex-Sony Vaio chief and ex-Google Japan president, recent gave a seminar where he shared several opinions on the PS3 platform holder. According to Tsujino, Sony was once innovative, but has become too slow for the Internet era and too quick to kill off projects before they get a chance....

Another year of Austin’s annual videogame festival Fantastic Arcade has come to an end, but not without a couple winners, losers (haha!), and pissed-off Norwegians. Seriously, don’t make eye-contact with them. They will mess your sh*t up. The biggest winner is also the most predictable one:Feztakes home the Audience Choice Award along with a neat Lego statue.Faraway(by Little–Eyes) won the Best in Show award, which would be pretty impressive if I knew anything about the panel of judges....

When I heard that a new, exclusive Castlevania game wascoming out for the Wii, I think I may have pushed down a random old lady in excitement. Once I heard that it would be a3D fighting game, I think I found that same old lady and pushed her down again, this time inanger. “Castlevania is not supposed to be a fighting game!” I exclaimed as the poor elderly woman collapsed into a nearby mud puddle....

We close out the week with a really nice freebie for you. It’s a laid back puzzle game in which you cancel out different colored cells by merging them together. It starts out easy, but rapidly gets more and more tricky as you learn to split cells as well as join them to create the right sizes. It’s calledCell & Love(iOS) and it’s free right now. Boasting some cool art and a terrific bit of backing music, this is well worth picking up....

Today’s freebie is quite possibly the best game we’ve featured on FAotD! I spotted this “zero-player game” onTouch Arcadeand rushed to check it out. I’m not sure what else is free on iTunes today, but it can’t be better than this. Basically,Godvilleplays itself and takes the form of a hero’s diary. The hero goes about his business, taking on missions, fighting monsters and leveling up. The rub is that he’s a religious fanatic, driven to do “great and stupid things” in the name of his God....

Has anyone been to Comic-Con 08 yet? I’d be there right now obsessing over the latest games, movies, and toys, if only there wasn’t that whole “being broke” thing. I guess I’ll have to settle with reading up on the announcements that come out of the convention and possibly playing some videogames with my Dtoid brethren. Things could be far worse. Besides needing a few good Xbox 360 hosts, we should be all set for this week’s Friday Night Fights....

Last week’sdebatecould have goneso muchworse, and I’m thoroughly pleased that it went as well as it did. I went into the PC odd game debates nervous about what games I could possibly pair up againstPortal, since I really didn’t want to shy away from including it in the brackets. I originally had it matched up againstMyst, and still plan to have that debate in a few months, but I’m so glad the battle of old-versus-new went so well last week....

Game Informer is big pimpin’ these days. I remember when they weren’t sh*t. A lot has changed since those days, hasn’t it? Now they’re they fifth largest magazine in the United States, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations. And the #1 game mag, of course. They’ve managed to increase their circulation 33 percent in 2010, ranking them higher than Time and Sports Illustrated. GI’s doing something right. Circulation fell 1....

You get those GameStop guys together in one room, and you start to hear interesting things. This being GameStop, you can’t really believe all you hear (no offense, guys), but the items do make for interesting conversation pieces. Sega has produced a video package of the games it’s showing off at Gamescom, focusing primarily onSonic All Stars Racing,Bayonetta,Alpha ProtocolandResonance of Fate. Some of those games will be great. TheSonicone probably won’t. That said, the video does show you how far Sega’s come. A few years ago, the publisher didn’t have two decent games to rub together, but thanks to some smart decisions, it now boasts a considerable amount of exciting titles....

A new expansion is coming toFable IIsoon — as in “weeks,” soon. Peter Molyneux recently sat down withKotakuduring GDC and spilled some tiny beans on the previously hinted, aptly named downloadable content, ‘See the Future.’ “The next DLC comes out in the spring,” Molyneux said. “We’re in the spring now so don’t think months, think more like weeks. It’s called See the Future.” “This time we’ve taken a little bit more time on it, it’s a little bit more story driven....
